"It was not possible to generate the label. Ship To name is a required field."

An item I had listed sold recently, so I went to print out the shipping label and send it out like normal, but I received the error message "It was not possible to generate the label. Ship To name is a required field." and the label would not print. Without being specific, the customer's name was basically just a bunch of "x"s in a particular order. Presumably, that's what's causing the error. To potentially complicate matters further, this customer is located in another country. I have the address information to send it out, just not the name. How should I handle this problem? I use eBay's Global Shipping Program for all international orders, so I need the name in order to send it to them, but it won't let me edit the name field on the shipping label, so even if I had the name, I couldn't type it in. Do I have to just cancel the order? I've never seen this issue before.

Afraid this is some type of glitch you are going to have to contact ebay about.

Is the GSP special info there or is it missing along with the name?

Well I will not address the global express system, but I know that the USPS requires a full first and last name for any package to be accepted. My own post office has sent packages back to me for that omission.

It may well be that DHL (which I believe the the final delivery carrier) has a similar requirement.

After all, if they do not know exactly who to deliver it to how can they prove delivery?

Best bet is to contact the buyer and ask for the actual first and last name.

You should be able to alter the name BEFORE you buy the label.

@hobby_collectible

Not an immediate solution, but if eBay would simply validate the address that users supply when registering in the same way they validate it later, sellers would not be put in this situation.

Ask the buyer what his name is. Then edit the shipping label. Or just write out the name and address and mail it from the post office.

Just adding the name isn't enough if the GSP info is not there as well.
