item damaged in the shipping process I want to file a claim with the USPS

My customer sent me a picture of the item they purchased from me and it was obviously severely damaged in the shipping process.  How do I start the process to file a claim with the USPS.  does the customer initiate it or do I initiate it?

Have you gone to the usps website to investigate yourself? It's not brain surgery and done all online.

The seller files the claim.

Your buyer will need to hold all items and packaging for when USPS wants them to take it to the PO.

You will need to refund the buyer way before USPS decides on the claim.

@sandy-shopper

You refund the buyer and have them hang on to the item and package for inspection.

You go to the USPS web site and file a claim using the photos the buyer sent.

Have a great day.

You will initiate it, since you purchased the postage/insurance (?). I'd recommend using the USPS website as @greatmidwestcoin suggests and simply follow the bouncing ball. USPS will let you know if your recipient will need be involved. Good luck.
