How does a seller get paid if a package is delivered but the post office was unable to scan it at delivery

Yes new seller. But how does ebay know if package was delivered if mailman couldnt scan the package at delivery?

...and, for that matter, how do you know this? The carrier has the option to key in the tracking number by hand if the bar code cannot be scanned.

What does the tracking number show on-line right now? Look it up on USPS.com and see what you find there.

Good question. Post office said the boy told them the package couldn't be scanned. now wondering if ebay won't know if delivered.. will payment be made

What "boy"? What would be the reason the package "couldn't be scanned"?  The postal carrier can enter the tracking # by hand if necessary.  There is something strange here.  I can't figure out if it's the way you are narrating the story or if something really odd happened.

USPS tracking still says awaiting delivery scan.. Post office just called and they are getting the purchaser to sign for the package . hope that is enough

called the Post Office and the woman said the boy told her the package would not scan . she wants to write a letter to confirm delivery.. told her Ebay doesn't work that way

If it wasn't scanned how do you know it was delivered?

Funds are released after tracking shows delivered, or in 21 days if there's no tracking and no claim has been made.

If the buyer files a not received  claim  on eBay you would lose because of USPS not getting a delivery scan.

If the buyer claimed it wasn't delivered and tracking shows it was not delivered then you could file a claim if it was mailed Prority or you insured it.

If there's no tracking that shows the item was delivered, they'll hold the funds for 21 days.

Here are the time frames when your funds will become available for payout:

• Within 24 hours after we confirm the order was delivered if you pay for shipping and print labels on eBay
• Within 24 hours after we confirm the order was delivered if you ship directly using USPS, UPS or FedEx and manually enter your tracking information to My eBay
• 6 days after the latest estimated delivery date if you don’t upload tracking information, but you mark the item as shipped in My eBay
• 21 days after the buyer pays if you don't provide tracking information, mark the item as shipped, or the estimated delivery date can't be calculated. In such cases, we may use buyer feedback as a delivery confirmation along with other factors
