Just an FYI: not sure it this is a new bug, an ongoing problem, or just a one-off but I sold an item earlier today going from California to New York with a calculated shipping size of 12"X9"X3" at a weight of 15 ounces and the customer was only charged $0.51 for 1st Class shipping. The actual amount he should have been charged was $9.90, I have no idea how he was only charged 51 cents and even eBay's Customer Service was quoted the $9.90 shipping cost when calculating the shipping cost using the customer's zip code with my listing. This was the only item the buyer purchased from me and the only domestic shipping options set up on the listing were 1st Class and Priority using the above stated package dimensions and weight, and an instant payment was required so there was no room to modify the shipping costs via an invoice or any other means. eBay will hopefully be reimbursing me for the extra expenses but if anyone else runs into anything like this I would report it ASAP.
Good luck!

$0.51 is the cost for a one-ounce envelope under eBay's new-ish "standard envelope" shipping which is limited to just a few categories such as trading cards. I don't see how that could have been available to the buyer if you didn't set it up in the listing.
The eBay shipping calculator defaults to show the retail rate for postage. The weight limit for retail First Class packages is 13 ounces, so if you enter a weight more than 13 ounces, the shipping calculator will do what the clerk at the PO retail counter would do: upgrade and charge the Priority Mail price.

This happened to me today and I lost money in my sale- I was charged $17 for shipping. All calculations were correct.
