You can change the address on a shipping label, but can't change the zipcode?

Capturesdczzxczxczxc.PNG

Had a package returned for "No mail receptable". Buyer now wants it sent to their PO box the next town over. I go to 'get another label' and then 'change address' and it lets me change every field but the zip code, which means I can't change the address. Never used to be like this.

Well, you do NOT have to buy the label from eBay. You can go to Pirateship, stamps.com, paypal or probably any number of other vendors and buy a label there. Just DO NOT reference eBay when you do. Just buy it as a separate label as if eBay is not involved. Just as you would if you were shipping a non-eBay package to a relative.

NO this does not count as "selling outside of eBay" since the sale was made on eBay. That way you can create any address you want. You can  just copy and paste the tracking number into the order. BUT if you do paste it into eBay they will use the new label as the ship date and ding your account for a late shipment. In cases like this I just send a message to the buyer with the new number.

By the way - is the buyer paying you for the new label? 'Cause they should since it appears to be their fault.

Several months ago eBay locked the zip code field.

Buy the label from pirateship.com and send tracking to the buyer through eBay messages. Don't add it to the transaction as that could screw things up for you.

Not only that, but the buyer could use the new tracking to win an INR claim since it's to a different address. Always better to buy that re-shipment label off eBay and not add it to the transaction.

An alternative is to refund the original transaction and have the buyer place a new order.

USPS reason return was 'insufficient address', buyer was convinced I screwed up their address, I was convinced the label was damaged or had an error. I said I would re ship on my dime to smooth things over. Didn't know it was 'no mail receptable' until it was delivered to me. $8.50 plus fees is cheaper then the time it would take to explain, and attempt to get the money, and deal with the fall out of neg feedback, etc.

I used USPS, online, to ship it again. Was surprised to see it was the same price as ebay. Which makes it cheaper as there are no fees. I thought there was a discount for using eBay?

Thanks for the heads up on getting dinged by adding a second tracking number. I guess that is why the way to add it it is to click "edit".

NO !!! That is what will get you a ding for late shipment since that is the date eBay will see. Just leave the original number and send the new number in a separate email to the buyer.

USPS is passing commercial discounts through their online label platform. In most cases it will still cost less with eBay, depending on the shipping service, package size/weight, and buyer's address.

No, do not add the new tracking number to the transaction. That's not only what will get you a late shipping mark, but it will also open you up to lose seller protections on an item not received claim. Send tracking through a message and do not add it to the transaction!

Was there any reason given for locking the zipcode?

I have one I changed the address and then changed the zip when I got the error message popup but now it won't freaking print the label.

Likely "eBays" idea of how to stop sellers that are unaware that a scammer may be trying to trick them when asking to have the purchase sent to a different address.

eBay did not announce or provide a reason. Educated guess is fraud prevention.

So now I'm not allowed to decide to change the address? Then why have an EDIT field on the address?

And why doesn't ebay just butt the h-ll out.

Well I guess I won't be sending this one through ebay shipping then.

I'd wager this solves a lot more problems than it creates. You're informed; you know you can buy the label elsewhere if you want to change the address and forfeit seller protections.

Minor inconvenience for you. Huge help to uninformed newbies that fall for shipping their $1k iPhone to a random scammer pretending to be the buyer asking to ship to a different address. eBay seen as a place for scams is good for no seller.

There is still an edit option because, for example, a seller may need to split the buyer's address on 2 lines or add a unit number, etc.
