Why the delay subtracting FedEx payments from Managed Payments?

This is so annoying - and basically ruins the value of information presented on the "Payments" page.

There's a message that says "amount will be deducted when the label is used" - or something to that effect.

I would think the label is USED once I drop it off and the person scans it in. Not a WEEK after delivery.

I would prefer to see that amount deducted at the time of purchase, regardless of the payments actual status.

For some reason, FedEx is a different animal.  Strangely, you are not charged until the package is delivered.  It is almost UNAmerican for a business not to grab their money immediately.

FedEx is different. They bill eBay, then eBay bills you. This happens after it gets delivered. This is so they can weigh the package and bill you the correct amount. UPS is the same way as well. There is no issue with under weighing of packages. The post office is different. You pay the post office when you print off the label. If you under weigh the item, then postage is due on delivery.

There is nothing eBay can do about this as FedEx has to bill eBay which doesn't happen until after delivery. This is the same as UPS.

This is to stop under weight packages. USPS is different, if you ship a package that was marked as 1 lbs but it weight 1.25 lbs. the postage is due on delivery. FedEx, same as UPS, bills the shipper after it gets delivered.

It seems like eBay sorts out the USPS under/over stuff and makes the seller pay...that's different.

I just want the "Payments" accounting to be MEANINGFUL. Its not like its actual money in my pocket.

As it is now - I can show a NEGATIVE "Payments" balance, if I didn't sell anything and a week old FedEx charge comes in.

What happens with that negative balance? Does eBay try to take it from my bank? Or do they just wait until the next time I feel like selling something?

And to be clear. The packages were DELIVERED a week ago...and today I pay?

So - I guess I have to keep a separate book keeping to make sense of my weekly payout.

That is what the post office does now but it wasn't that long ago that if the postage wasn't enough the buyer had to pay when it got delivered or it would get sent back with postage due. I remember that time.

FedEx and UPS don't bill any of there customers until after it gets delivered. They have been doing that for years now. I have accounts with them and they have always done that with me so eBay cannot get the money from you until FedEx or UPS bills eBay.

Yes. You should be because there are other expenses that are not part of that payout. If you have a negative payout eBay at some point will take it from your bank. It maybe in a few days or a week later. I have had that happen many times.

You can set up an alternate source for eBay to take from if there are no funds.  I put that on the credit card I used to pay all the fees with.

God only knows how many that are not part of the payout like power, heat, rent, cost you paid for the item, email, internet access, staffing costs (if you have anyone else other than you).........

The list can be pretty long. If you sell something on this platform or on any platform and you have to report income to you local, state or IRS you can deduct all of these as part of selling stuff on eBay. So it is a good idea to keep track of it.
