The status of an item I paid for on 6/1 was changed to "shipped" 8 days after purchase, 1 day before delivery date, and only after I'd contacted seller twice. Was the item really shipped, or did seller just change status to get me off his back?

Is there a tracking number displayed? If not, it's possible the seller just Marked as shipped.
If the item doesn't arrive within the next week, go ahead and file an Item Not Received case in the RESOLUTION CENTER (bottom of this screen).

Was there a Tracking number added to your purchase ?? If so you can go on USPS web site and see where your package currently is located !! If no tracking number than probably not shipped !! Unless the item in question is a paper product where tracking isn't usually provided because of the shipping costs !!
