USPS Tracking claims to have "Left Notice" but didn't?

I ordered a small item weighing just 1.2 lbs. The order shipped with the UPS SurePost service which they handed to my local post office on August 15th for delivery the following day. The next day comes, and no package arrived. I checked the tracking number and it says "Notice left" at 8:36 AM (which is much earlier than when the mail usally comes). I go outside and no USPS "notice" or pink/peach slip was seen anywhere. Not on my door. Not in my mailbox. Not on the ground (I was hoping it might of just fell off the door but nope). I was home ALL DAY and didn't hear any knocks of any kind. That, and my dog would usally start barking if someone was walking up the driveway.

My guess is that someone wasn't doing there job and didn't even ATTEMPT to deliver my package. I'm only guessing because I don't think a signature is required for such a small and light package that might even fit in my mailbox. I called the USPS customer service number but that wasn't much help since I didn't have the supposed numbers from on the notice because I never got one.

The next day comes and my package STILL isn't delivered (and the tracking hasn't changed). What do I do now? I've never had this issue before and I'm afraid that my package has suddenly gone missing. Thanks in advance for those who can help.

Go to your local Post Office and request a GPS scan for your package.  Have them check with your carrier, too.  They should be able to tell you more because USPS's Tracking records will be much more detailed than the ones that you can see online.

Notice Left usually means the package is at the post office. I have a lazy postman that scans them as out for delivery when in fact he never loads them in the truck.

It would be much easier just to call the local post office and ask if they have the package.  No need to dig around with GPS if they can just look up and see the package in the hold section.

The timing does suggest that either the carrier scanned as attempted without taking the package to the route, or the employee sorting packages to the routes within the PO may have scanned as attempted.

Either way it is unlikely any real attempt was made at delivery.  And either a notice was not left at all or maybe it was left in the wrong mailbox.

The only way to find out for sure is to call that Post Office.

Face-to-face time can make a difference when you're asking for an assist.  Just speaking on my own experience but I kinda think you're more likely to get good service when you're there in person than you might just as a voice over the phone.

I make it a point to know my USPS carrier and the USPS window attendants at the local PO by name, and they know me.  If there's ever a problem with my mail, I can easily go chat with them--it sure was a big help a couple of years back when someone was stealing my mail.

Yes, it can.  But not everyone can get to the PO during business hours.  Or if they can, it can be a hardship.

Personally, I would call first just because it may save a trip or at least let me know when would be the best time to go.

I got one of those notices a couple of weeks ago, I wasn't happy since there was no notice left.  The next day I was going to go to the PO after work, lo and behold, I got a text that the package was delivered.  Someone obviously forgot to load it onto the truck the day before, at least it worked out for me.

So for those who are curious if I ever got it or not: I went to my local post office in attempt to pick it up. I gave the guy at the counter my tracking number and he begins to search in the back. About 10 minutes later, he comes back telling me that he can't find it and made me write my name and phone number down incase they find it (which is unlikely). So now the package is lost. Great...
