USPS Tracking Dead-ends: What Next?

USPS shows the one of my items has arrived at a regional facility near the buyer's city.....and there it dead-ends.  Nearly a month has gone by and there's no sign of delivery and nothing heard from the buyer.  First time this has happened with one of my sales.

Now, as a seller, I do try to have more sense than to poke a sleeping bear but I am worried whether the item got there.  It's really tempting to message the buyer but I know that could end badly so I haven't.

I've pestered my local PO but the clerk (really a helpful person) finds no record either and is as mystified as I am.  Not sure what to do next.   Any ideas?

If you have more sense than to poke a sleeping bear, why are you wondering if you should?  Smiley Happy

Most of the time I hear nothing about my items until they have been delivered.  And yes I too have items that get to a sort center super quick but then sit for days and days and days for no particular reason.  And some go to a town in the next state just across the river but by way of OREGON on the other side of the country.

Having sense doesn't mean that the temptation ceases to exist!  Cat Tongue

I've also had several items taking an unexpected tour of the US with long stops along the way.  Not unusual.  But this is no activity in tracking for a month.

You can request e-mail status updates via the USPS T&C screen. These inquiries generate an exception report and someone has to follow through.

Chances are that the buyer received the package just fine and doesn't even care about delivery confirmation.

Thanks!  I'll give that a try.  I'm hopeful that the package has gotten there.

Will be glad to share.  I'm curious to know what will happen, too!  Is good to learn something new, even though it's because of a worrying issue.

The response to my Tracking request for "all future activity" will be, according to the USPS site, processed within four hours and any further information will be forwarded when something happens.

usps website and request updates emailed to you. This sometimes gets it moving.

Take the tracking number, address of buyer and date it was sent and give to your post master. He/She can then check on it for you also.

Since you asked, I'm updating.  I'm still following through with this but I suspect that I ticked the wrong box when I first made my request of USPS Track & Confirm because I heard nothing back, although I waited a day and a half.  So, today, I again made a request but ticking a different box requesting information up until now.  Within less than 5 minutes, USPS sent me an automated email with the information that I have already seen on both my Orders page and on the USPS site.  Nothing new.  Will be interesting to see if they update.  Really hope the package has gotten to its destination!

If the buyer hasn't complained about the package not arriving, I would do nothing..

You know, that is exactly what the post office told me when I tried to run down a missing package on Friday! I am concerned that it showed "out for delivery" then "unknown status" rather than delivered.  So where is it? Who knows!

If its status is Out for Delivery, then the carrier will have to account for it one way or another. It will automatically change to Delivery Status Not Updated after 14 hours.

As with the preceding discussion, just let it go, unless or until you actually hear from the buyer that there's a problem. The package may just get redelivered today.

As far as the buyer knows, I will appear to be doing nothing.  However, I will continue to try to find out what has happened with USPS because I do not want lost packages in future and also because I don't want the risk of an unexpected INR case or, worse, a chargeback.  This is a matter of me being proactive in protecting myself as a seller and preparing myself for the potential of it happening again.
