Why do sellers send tracking numbers to Ebay and all they do is print a shipping label. And Ebay marks the item as shipped and it hasn't left the sellers hands.

When a seller buys the shipping label through Ebay, Ebay automatically adds the tracking number and sends the email saying the item has been shipped.
Sellers and buyers have been complaining about this for a while.

Ask eBay.

Alas! This is something eBay has done and will most likely continue to do regardless of how many sellers and/or buyers complain. I often purchase my shipping directly from USPS so have to enter the tracking manually. That allows me to refrain from sending it to the buyer myself after I actually post the item.

The system is very misleading as currently employed, and the complaint is valid as I've experienced. Sometimes I've found that one or two days after I've purchased an item / received a tracking number ... nothing is moving. As it turns out, the seller had not yet ACTUALLY taken the item to the delivery service. My suggestion :
Since eBay like the other WIZARDS of SMART use algorithms, adapt them to display a tracking number to a buyer ONLY WHEN THE DELIVERY SERVICE LOGS IN THE ITEM TO BE DELIVERED TO THEIR SYSTEM ... NOT FROM EBAY'S. I'm sure that can be co-ordinated with FedEx, USPS, whomever.
POOF !! SOLVED.
