Hi, I am both a seller & buyer on ebay. I have been collecting since 1965 as a kid.
When I am selling on ebay, I always add a personal touch and place a handwritten thank you note in with the item that the buyer purchased from me. Just sort of common courtesy and a `thank you' to the buyer.
What I don't get is why other sellers don't either add a typed note of `thank you' or a handwritten note.
It just makes sense to show courtesy & respect to a person who has taken the time to purchase an item from you, when there are tens of millions of items and sellers on ebay to choose from.
And, a final remark from a buyer and seller on ebay (since 1999). When I receive a package I have bought and the seller has not taken a few minutes to add a thank you note, I will NEVER buy from them again.
Show some class & courtesy sellers.

I agree that including a thank you message with a purchase is common courtesy.
When a customer makes a purchase in my B&M store, it is unthinkable to neglect to say thank you or make an appreciative gesture of some kind.
However, I would not go to the length of denying an eBay seller my future support for excluding a thank you note.
As long as a seller fulfils their obligation, that is more than enough for me.

Every seller has the right to choose how to run their business, how to price their items, whether to include a personal note, whether to gift wrap the item, etc.
As a buyer, all I care about is getting the item I bought and getting it promptly (shipped within the seller's handling time) and getting it intact. I'm buying the item; not a thank you note!
As a buyer, you have the right to choose to buy from or not buy from anyone! But if you received an item for a good price and it is as described, don't you think you're biting off your nose to spite your face if you avoid them in the future just because they didn't include a personal note?

Every time someone buys from me, I thank them as I process the order. I thank them again after I drop off the box at the post office or the UPS store letting them know what time it was dropped off. To me it is just common sense to show appreciation for the purchase.

I always left a thank you message via the feedback system at the time of shipping.
Anything else is a waste of time and paper.

Yep! I always include my business card with my store name and website address. On the card it thanks the buyer for supporting my business along with a coupon for their next visit. I have repeat buyers because I do take the time to do these small things to make them feel special and appreciated. But yes everyone I entitled to run their business the way they see fit.

I'm a buyer only. I do appreciate it when I get a " thank you" note. I also appreciate receiving feedback. More often than not , I receive neither feedback nor a thank you note.
Ultimately, if I receive my item, and it is as described and all of my needs were fulfilled, that is really all I care about in the end.
I also believe a little courtesy goes a long way. I extend a thank you message to all sellers after a successful transaction completes, but I don't do it expecting a return.

Hi @ekobak
An alternate viewpoint:
I'm a buyer only. I really don't care if a seller remains invisible when sending me the item I purchased. It's fine if a seller writes "Thanks!" on a packing slip they include in the listing ... but a separate handwritten or typed 'note' would actually be off-putting. It would cause concern that I'll receive unwanted solicitations in the future concerning products for sale. [I reached my tolerance for sales pitches decades ago.]

I do the very same thing! I took a thank you card and made a color copy of the front of it and I write a note on the copy page. I think it adds so much for someone to know that I appreciate them for purchasing my item. In that note I remind them to check back as I add new items weekly. It doesn’t take a long time and it doesn’t cost much.
