Hi,
I am still learning the ropes of selling and shipping. I set up a small flat item to ship first class letter but when I go to print the label it shows up as a package and will not allow me to change that. Now I used the eBay shipping calculator to figure out shipping options, then set up my listings using that information. The listing shipping option was set to letter. Is there something I am missing? I am just trying to figure out how this works.
Thanks,
Scott (sgd1952)

eBay does not sell labels for First Class letters or flats (AKA Large envelopes). You can just put a stamp on it.
The exception is the special standard shipping for items such as tracking cards, but thats only available in selected categories.
eBay allows sellers to choose shipping options that they don't sell postage for, including not only letters and flats but also Retail Ground. And they said that they are phasing out access to purchasing labels for Parcel Select Ground, though they might have changed that policy.
Sellers also aren't allowed to purchase Media Mail labels through eBay for items that are listed in categories where most items aren't eligible for MM. For instance, if you list a book in the Collectibles category, then eBay won't sell you MM postage for it.

Hi,
Thanks so much for the information. That really helps. But I am now wondering if I use my own postage, how do I mark something as delivered? I do not see that listed as an option, only that it shipped. Does eBay hold it against you if you have items that never show as delivered?
Thanks again for your helpful information.

If you are shipping this item without tracking, you are running the risk of the buyer saying they did not receive it, and opening a case against you. In which case, you will not have a leg to stand on, since there is no tracking showing proof of delivery.
It is highly recommended therefore to use a shipping method that offers tracking. If you are offering free shipping, the shipping cost needs to be rolled into the item price, so that you don't lose money.
You may need to eat a little cost of shipping on this particular item in order to protect yourself. You could risk it this time, but again it's a risk. It may be fine, it may not.

Letters and flats do not have tracking, so there is no way to mark then as delivered. DVDs can be shipped via Media Mail for $3.19 with tracking (formerly known as Delivery Confirmation).

On your "Orders" page, under "Paid & Shipped," there is a listing of your "Sold" items. In a column on the left is "Actions" (where it might read "Leave Feedback"). Near it is a small box, with a downward facing arrow. Click on that box, and scan down to "Mark As Shipped." Click it to confirm to eBay that you have mailed this item.
Although you have now indicated to eBay that you have shipped the item, eBay will still ding you for not providing a tracking number, although eBay will NOT ding you for non-shipment.

Hi, unless you are sending a 'letter' something thin enough to be consider letter, you should probably use the small package label. If the PO determines it is not letter, they may send back to you, postage due.
