USPS only insures up to $5000 unless registered mail. Any recommendations on how to ship an item that sold for $10,000 that protects me as the seller? Thank you in advance. It is a custom collector knife that sold. It does not appear EBay has registered USPS, only signature required option for $750 or over. Thank you in advance

Whenever, I sell a high value item like that I will take it the post office and mail it Registered Priority Mail.
Registered Mail is insured up to $25,000.00 and you can purchase more insurance if required.
I’m guessing a knife should cost $40.00 to $50.00 to ship.

For that much money, I would hand deliver it.

Have never had an issue with USPS Registered mail which sent under lock and key. Most secure way to send something in my opinion.

One more thing you will have to bring it to post office for Registered mail as it is not an option via eBay. You will also have to manually enter tracking number once you receive from the post office.

Although USPS registered mail is the most secure but you've option of UPS or FedEx Overnight as well. I do UPS Overnight with my private insurance coverage. Much faster!
If you have high numbers of high value shippings, look into private insurance. Your cost will be cut in half

Unless you have private insurance USPS Registered mail is a lot cheaper than FedEx or UPS overnight.
USPS Priority will take an extra day or two for Registered Mail. Also, buyer will have to go to the post office to sign for item with ID.

I agree with USPS Registered Mail. It's under lock and key, and signed for every at every stop. It rides separately from the regular mail. I don't know if they still do it as it's been a couple of decades since I've used it, but they used to wrap it all up in tamper-proof tape.
