i noticed the shipping calculator is not giving me proper results. when checked against USPS site, either ebay is giving me wildly high USPS prices or else it doesn't show the most appropriate available service. for instance, leaving out 1st class letter OR parcel pricing for a 4 oz "letter" , or showing me 200+ dollar fee when usps shows 60.00 for a box parcel..
Anyone else having trouble with it?

I am basing my observation of the inconsistency, on thier listed pricing. According to that i should pay about 60.00 for a 30x30x12, 9 lb ground parcel. But thier calculator is showing me something like 183.00. As well as ebay showing me a similar outrageous price.
so wierd. probably ebay is linked to thier calculator.
I will have to call or email them.
The length-plus-girth of your package is 30 + (30 + 12 + 30 + 12) = 114 inches. For length-plus-girth over 108 inches (up to 130 inches), USPS charges an Oversize rate rather than going by the actual package weight. The Oversize rate to Zone 8 is $183.75. Your estimate of $60 is probably the "Balloon rate" which is $59.64, but that's only for length-plus-girth up to 108 inches.
In other words, it's not a miscalculation and thre's no need to call anybody. eBay and the USPS shipping calculator are right. You overlooked the impact of the size of your package.
You can look up the rates including footnotes about the dimensional factors here:

oh and another thing it did, was to show me a very odd price , for a 9 lb large box parcel. It showed me a 2.66 1st class parcel price! wierd.

I agree. Something is going on with the shipping calculator. I had a listing end yesterday with the buyer paying calculated shipping costs based upon location. The buyer paid $12.95 for priority shipping and eBay is trying to tell me the shipping costs are $19.47. I can even go to the listing that sold and put in the customers zip code and calculate the shipping and it comes out as $19.47. I don't know how the customer paid what they did. I have tried calculating different weights and shipping services and I cannot get the number they did.

Is this for the Levis and Lee jeans listing? On that listing you have quotes for fedex and for usps. Is it possible that they buyer paid for fedex which shows as being less expensive than Priority?

oh goodness, thanks. yes that's right, i just forgot to add the last 30 inches. got to adjust box size to get it under 108.
but still, that price is so outrageous. About a hundred dollar difference for about 6 inches of difference in a box's total measurement!
no wonder i was astounded.
