Thoughts. I was forced to take a return from a customer. My listing shows item must be defective for a return. Customer opened a case saying it was the wrong size Cutco knife. The item was returned without the package and can't be sold as new anymore. I opened a case and eBay returned the money to the customer and forced me to pay shipping. Why would eBay go against my listing policy?

Your policy does not conform with the policy of the eBay MBG. You can not make your own rules that differ from eBay rules.

So no package, just returned in a box and I am the one stuck?

Ebay's MBG trumps any seller return policy, and if a buyer says something is not as described you have no choice but to accept the return and pay the return shipping. Buyer pays shipping is ONLY for remorse returns - I don't like it, it makes my butt look big, the color doesn't match my dog's eyes - that kind of stuff.
You've been a seller long enough to know how this works.

Here is what eBay has listed...... See the pink
You may request to return an item in the condition it was received if you change your mind. Depending on the seller’s stated return policy at the time of purchase, your refund may be reduced by restocking fees or return shipping costs.

I agree with you 100% BUT ebay will 99.9% of the time allow the buyer to do whatever they want and the seller will take it in the shorts.
You not allowing returns does not mean anything at all once ebay customer service is involved. They dont even care if you shipped a knife and received a rock back.
Sorry!

INAD is not changed mind.
Restocking fees no longer applr with eBay updates. (Possibly June 18)
Seller can withhold up to 50% if they do 30 free returns. I do not believe that policy applies to any other return policy.
Seller pays return shipping on all INAD.
