Returned item (Not given full refund)

Hi.

I recently returned an item on eBay that offered free 30 day returns. The item cost me $399.99, and the shipping cost $4. (Order total of $403.99).

I returned the item, and sent it back immediately. Today I received an email from Paypal which stated that the amount refunded on the item was $349.99. I never asked for a partial refund, and I am wondering why I never got all of my money back, considering that all I did was send the item back to the buyer in regards with the 30 day free return policy and expected to get my $399.99 back . If anybody knows what is going on I would love to know!!!

Thank you,

Jack

It seems more information would be needed to determine why this happened.   Was the item's package opened up by you?  If the item(package included) was not exactly the same as you received it, the seller could have withheld funds for that, or they could have in their policy that they will charge you a restocking fee for returns.  I am however not sure if this is allowed on eBay any longer.

Why did you return the item?

Did you read the seller's return policy?

Don't mind any of that partial talk, Jack. Open  a return request here, then go back and immediately click the Escalate to PayPal link at the bottom of the page.

Restocking fees have not been allowed on eBay for over 2 years. Do not respond if your seller contacts you now, and do not close the case.

When you're instructed to return the item, upload your already-delivered tracking number to instantly get the remainder of your refund.

  • eTRS sellers and sellers who offer free returns can now offer partial refunds, up to 50%, if the item is returned in a condition different than when you shipped it.

You can escalate to ebay if you disagree with the partial refund. I sent back a SNAD item in the exact condition I got it, seller took 50% off (interestingly enough the original shipping cost 50% of the total so I suspect seller was being greedy and trying to keep that money), I appealed to ebay and got an immediate courtesy refund for the whole amount and I also reported the seller because bad sellers who abuse that feature are going to end up ruining it for everyone.
