Return reason changed after creating it

So initially, I tried to create a return for an order that was obviously a counterfeit product which was listed as genuine. The eBay app on my iPhone 12 Pro sucks, as I am absolutely unable to scroll down and click “doesn’t seem authentic” and was forced to use my chrome browser.

In the browser, I was then able to click the option for “doesn’t seem authentic” and went through all the steps. I then see a screen saying that I will be responsible for return shipping and got confused, and then saw that my reason for the return automatically changed to “wrong fit,” even though I absolutely did not click this.

I contacted eBay and told them if there was a way to get the shipping fee waived since the product I got was not genuine and it was not my fault. They told me that all I can do is ask the seller if they can provide a prepaid label.

Has this happened to anyone else?

@davchun98

I'll qualify my answer... it has not happened to me. Trouble is, it's happened to you.

The only option you have is for the seller to refund you more than you've asked for, and chances of that are pretty slim. You can always close this case and open one in PayPal... but there, you'd be expected to pay return shipping, so it's a lot of work for nothing.

I suppose I'd just call it my error, leave the Return in eBay and eat the return shipping. Sorry this happened to you.

Only thing I can think of is that curser moved from one field to another without you realising and wrong field was clicked.

Noted that remorse return is opened and if you do not return the item by specified date then case will close without a refund.

As far as authenticity is concerned seller says item is authentic buyer says no it is not.

This becomes a pantomime.

Oh yes it is Oh no it isn't.

If I was certain then I would engage an attorney.

Attorney will detail evidence showing why item is not authentic and include claim for costs and compensation and in return sellers attorney will provide evidence refuting  the allegation and why  claim is baseless or otherwise.

You may decide to engage an attorney as this is the only way you will have clarity on evidence that will be submitted in court of law and you can then decide what action if any you want to take.

I can say with 100% certainty that the item is fake. I checked the serial number with Apple themselves and they told me that they've had multiple serial number checks with the same serial number within the past couple of days. I purchased AirPods and the sound quality is really horrendous. I have a dying pair of genuine Apple AirPods and the weight of 2 of the fake ones aren't even as heavy as a single real AirPod. The box I was sent had some of the text pasted on with a sticker.

That's really unfortunate that I'd have to eat shipping costs. I used only one finger and ensured that "Doesn't seem authentic" was chosen as a response before clicking next. There could be no way that I changed the reason myself.

The seller doesn't seem to respond either. Another person wrote feedback that they've never heard back from the seller.

Yes, OP, I guess my reply to the poster that went on about getting an attorney etc. was ridiculous and was stupid advice for a pair of shoes!        OP, no your problem is a big one and I understand your frustration and I am so sorry.   It's just the attorney post from the other poster was ridiculous not even knowing the value of the item in question.

Also, my opinion, if I bought something claiming authentic and it wasn't I personally wouldn't click I think it's counterfeit.  Reason being I have seen a few posts here where the posters said Ebay wanted a letter or some proof counterfeit.  I would personally click not as described.  I mean if I got something counterfeit and not authentic as described, that's the button I would click.  From what I read here, those returns are always easy easy easy just by clicking not as described.

I have had hundreds of transactions and I have only returned one time.  $40 shoes.  Some time after seller took the photos, several things superglued the shoes somehow including the inside sole(right word?) of the shoe where these shoes are known for being able to take them out and wash them and put them back in the shoe.  The seller was very nice and said she didn't know why her son did that.   Anyway.

When you've already made a sincere effort to return a defective or not as described item @davchun98 but you're still asked to return the item at your own expense

file a chargeback with your card issuer, if you paid directly at eBay Checkout or via PayPal/GPay/APay with a card, then both any return policy is irrelevant and the seller pays return shipping if they want the item back.

Sad thing is that you will return the item and some one else will buy it and fraudster wins.

He sent you Garbage so I would send him Garbage back.

Yours is a perfect case for litigation or cyber crime police.

There is no question that people who commit these acts are fraudsters and must be taken to task.

I am aware of the problem you faced and on items of high value safest thing is not to buy from anyone other than a reputable and authorised seller.

It appears that every 2nd item is a rip off especially on high value/ demand electronics and good people like you suffer the inconvenience and in some cases harm including physical harm due to devices that are not safe.

In my OP I was making the point that it is extremely difficult, expensive and time consuming to prove and bring these criminals to justice and these criminals know this to be the case.

Lawmakers need to act and empower and fund law enforcement agencies ( Taking the burden away from public) to step on this illegal activity otherwise these people like drug dealers continue to prosper at your and mine expense.

My pet hate is all fraudsters and abusers of any kind.
