Refund by echeque - can I reverse it?

I recently needed to refund a buyer. Not done this before so followed the instructions on the original listing and it was processed. Then I received a message that the refund was sent by echeque. I have never used this before - don't even know what it is. I've since discovered this means the buyer has to wait up to 6 days for their money and I'm mortified. I'd prefer to refund them immediately but don't know how to do that or if I can cancel the echeque. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Was this a refund through PayPal?   If you didn't have funds in your PayPal account it will be an echeck nothing you can do about it.  

If it has anything to do with managed payments I honest have zero knowledge on how it works

yes through Paypal. Thanks for replying. I guess I will need to allow the process to take its course and not allow it to happen again.
