I had a usps pickup scheduled yesterday for two pretty valuable packages (we weren't sure if we'd be able to drop off and they needed to ship that day)
Anyway, they came and picked them up around 4pm yesterday. We have a ring camera and we have the mail carrier on the camera picking up both packages. He did not scan them as he picked them up.
As of now, 11:00am the next day, there is no initial scan. It is still showing as "pre-shipment" via tracking. Usually by now a picked up package would have several scans.
I'm trying not to freak out. They both have full insurance. If something happens, since I have proof they were in the hands of USPS, will my insurance still be honored even if they don't scan them?
I have never had this happen. I've done probably over 100 usps pickups and the packages are always scanned at pickup and of course these are the most valuable packages I've ever put out for pickup.

What do you mean those at the local PO couldn't trick the system? I know USPS took the packages, if they are "lost" the only option is that they were stolen. One is very large (even has a built in handle), impossible to lost.
There is no way that USPS would make it this easy for workers to steal packages...or maybe I am just completely stupid in trusting that they wouldn't.
Will try to not assume, but again, this has never happened with hundreds of non-insured packages I've shipped using pickup, always picked up and scanned immediately. The first time I have two insured packages, both are ironically just missing.
Ugh

Thanks! Going to be incredibly hard to rest this weekend, I can tell you that. It has been over 24 hours now with no scans on either of these packages and no info from the postmaster

I ship 40-50 packages a week and they do not get scanned.they are all, 1st class.
went in Monday mornig during a snow storm and the lady told me theres no pickup tonight.she said they will sit there till wednesday.
I looked at tracking back in november and thats what I saw.not sure why they sit but they do.its a big enough post office.
your packages will be fine........I am a drop and go shipper........in the chute and I am out the door

EDD came and went and it still just says "pre-shipment". No scans or answers when I call the post office.
A "package research case" has been opened, basically meaning it's lost and they have no way to track it down since it was never scanned. I honestly can't believe this has happened and that it seems that USPS will take no responsibility for it due to their employee not scanning the package (which makes them clearly at fault and which I have proof of)
I will keep pushing, but now my ebay buyer is upset and demanding answers that I don't have

Curious to see how this ended. I watched the carrier pick up 3 padded envelopes from my mailbox yesterday, but it's now 10:30 AM, and no scans that it was picked up or has been sent to a sorting facility.

This is why I don't use pick up or drop off, I wait on line to make sure the package is scanned and I have a receipt. Just last week brought a package with usps ground to the post office and the teller could not scan the bar code, I asked her to type it in she said she could but their be no tracking have to go off the address and I wouldn't know if it arrived. It's possible if they have a problem scanning the bar code the package gets sent out with no tracking , Good chance it will still arrive on time.
