Hopefully this is the right area to post this...Anyhow, I have only sold a few items on here so far.
I have mostly spent my time as a buyer, both observing the habits of sellers and getting items I needed.
I have shipped all my items using the typical eBay printed label method. Though I have not lost any money using this method, the lowest I can spend via this method is $2.47 or so, which definitely adds up over time if my packages could be sent via simple envelope and stamp.
I sell primarily higher value trading cards, sometimes lower end ones. An envelope with a stamp is the cheapest and most effective method of doing this, but I do not know exactly how to go about this.
My first worry was about marking the item as shipped, which I read can be done by going to the seller area and marking it as shipped in the "old version".
My second worry was the shipping date displaying the proper expected times. When I am drafting up an item and preparing the shipping options, the expected delivery is set to the label's standards. Typical packages sent by envelope have different time spans. I don't want it to say it'll get there in 5 days and it show up in 8. Is there a way I can reflect the proper expected arrival date timespan?
I know of course that this method of no tracking # can be risky at times, but I primarily intend to use it on my lower end cards so I can actually profit more. I intend to continue sending higher value items with a tracking number. Typically anything above $5 I prefer to add a tracking number to, but I need to be able to sell my lower value cards individually and get a profit. For this, I must be able to ship via the simple envelope and stamp method.
So, to those who ship this way, how do you do it? In terms of marking it as shipped and showing the proper expected delivery date?

eBay sets the expected delivery dates, based on their own database on delivery times. So your best strategy probably would be to be sure that when you set up the listing, you choose "Letter" from the drop-down menu for "Package type" even though First Class package is what will show up in the listing. Or add a few days' handling time.

If you use a flat rate you can use the generic shipping choices - standard shipping shows up as 1-5 business days and economy shows up as 1-10 business days. Your handling time is added on to those estimates.
