Hi~
Listed an item with best offer and 2 options for shipping. Did not have local pick up as an option. Buyer sends best offer and asks if he can do local pick up. I say yes to both the offer and pick up. I change the invoice to reflect local pick up only and no shipping options or charges.
I ask him not to pay the invoice, that he should pay in cash when we meet. Guess what? He pays using paypal. NOW my questions are:
1: how do I get the 'enter tracking number' to go away because there was no shipping involved.
2: Should I have him or I cancel order and relist with local as the only option for shipping and then he can pay using paypal or
3: Cancel, relist and specify AGAIN that he needs to pay in cash?
4: what happens if this item never shows as shipped or delivered?
5:But if he picks up and is fine with item can he leave feedback and all will be right with ebay?
What a BIG mess this seems to be~
Thanks for any help!

You can't do that anyway. You are required to have an electronic payment method even if you list for local pickup only. You'll have to feel him out. Unless buyer seems like a scammer, I wouldn't worry about it too much, and let the transaction go to completion when he picks it up.

Worked out fine!! Buyer picked item up, was extremely pleased and told me to call ebay and let them know that item had been picked up locally (even tho' I only changed it on the invoice and NOT in the listing).
Ebay changed it on their end and sent a confirmation email letting me know what they had done. Buyer left glowing feedback, so all is well in ebay land...for now at least!!!
Thanks so much for your help~

How very nice to hear of a successful sale and a happy customer!
For future reference, though, there was nothing for eBay to "fix." You sent an invoice, which the buyer paid. The eBay FVF is based on the amount paid, not the original listing, so you incurred no extra fee. (Ditto for Paypal.) Marking the item "shipped" is optional -- mostly for your reference -- and you can do that without calling eBay.
In Paypal, for any transaction that does not have a tracking number, just select one of the other options such as "order processed." I do this all the time when I send postcard orders via non-machinable letter. It also applies to services, digital delivery and carriers that are not on the list.
