International Return

Hi, I recently sold a vintage bag to a buyer in Norway for $430 on an auction. He now claims it was "not as described", claims it is not an authentic Hermes bag (never claimed it was because I have no knowledge of designer bags and would not even know where to start to have it authenticated). I agreed to a return, but he wants me to pay not only the $430 but also the GSP costs he paid of $149.18 + the return postage of $52.00. Really? No more international sales for me...I have removed the GSP option from all of my listings. Deals like this can make me go bankrupt! Thanks.

The title of the listing had Hermes, therefore the buyer took you at your word that the bag was indeed authentic, so on that end, if you cannot prove that the handbag is authentic, the return should be accepted (to which you have already agreed to do).

The GSP costs he needs to get back from his Country because that is where the money for that goes so you are off the hook for that, but the return shipping, you will have to pay.

The bag should have been confirmed as "authentic" prior to listing.  The Fashion Boards have willing responders to assist and authentication sites that they refer posters to use.

This return is on you as well it should be.  Why on earth would not only sell an item you were not sure of its authenticy, but to make matters worse to sell it internationally?

You need to figure out what it will cost for the buyer to return internationally to you with tracking and then send the buyer the funds via Paypal.

You have a mess on your hands.

I removed GSP for all my listings years ago, you should too.

If there is a SNAD case open, I'm afraid you have no choice but to pay return shipping and refund 100% (well, you could just refund and let them keep the bag. After all, a fake bag is worthless on eBay). If there is no case, I would tell them to return for refund and hope they do. Taxes and Customs are their problem. Just because you have no idea that it is authentic or not is not the buyers problem. Its been posted that sellers should get item "appraised", but that's up to you, I disagree with eBay's stance on that. If you go the PayPal route, you will most likely never see the return because most international buyers know they can get a partial refund this way, even if the item is 100% authentic .

BTW, SNAD is not only international, it's US too and VERY common. Don't sell things you can't afford to give away for free.

Thank you - did not know about the  GSP costs and where they went. So glad I have removed international buyers from ALL of my listings. I am prepared to refund the original cost of the bag plus his return postage from Norway.

Bag is on the way back to me from Norway. I am not letting someone keep a bag that I do believe is AUTHENTIC. Upon receipt, will be taking to the Hermes dealer in LA for authentication. I will refund him the orginal cost of the bag + his return postage. Thank you for your response.
