International Buyers are charged for domestic AND international Shipping charges?

I just noticed this today. International buyers pay for both domestic AND international shipping charges? Wow, that seems excessive. Am I reading this right? How can someone pay two charges like that for one package? I don't get it.shipping.png

International Buyers are charged for domestic AND international Shipping charges?

With ebay international shipping the buyer sees one shipping amount.  If the seller charges for domestic shipping, the domestic portion goes to the seller so that they can pay for the domestic shipping label. The remainder of the shipping paid goes to ebay international shipping.  If the seller had free shipping, all of the shipping paid by the buyer would go to ebay.  It worked like that for the gsp too. eBay international standard was set up differently.

International Buyers are charged for domestic AND international Shipping charges?

Lets see it ships domestically to Glendale heights Il.

Then eBay International takes over and ships to the buyer

Your buyer paid 23.93

Cost of item was $3.50

Shipping and taxes came to $20.43

Not knowing where your buyer is from I guessed at UK.

UK buyers pay $16.44 for shipping so the UK buyer paid $3.99 in tax to ship to Illinios. There's no double shipping charge that I could see.

ETA: If I am incorrect someone will point that out.

I got paid $3.50 for the item and $3.50 for domestic shipping, then ebay charged the other fees on top of that to ship internationally. $1.40 VAT tax and the rest shipping.  I'm not understanding why they did that. I've never seen that before on an international order that a customer paid a domestic and international shipping charge. Seems odd.Screen Shot 2023-01-06 at 2.08.42 PM.png

So they are charged both. That's ridiculous but at least they know ahead of the purchase.  SMH, poor people. I hope this book is worth it to this buyer. Thanks so much for your answer.

They are paying the shipping at the normal rate to the international shipping point, and then the shipping (at a much-reduced rate) from the international shipping point to them.

If they were paying direct retail from you to them, I guarantee you the charges would be much, much higher.

The company that is sending this out for eBay can do so at a much lower rate than eBay could ever offer.

It is NOT odd. They have to pay for shipping twice. The item is shipped to Illinois.  Then it's shipped to their country.  Yes, it's alot of money but international shipping has gotten very expensive.  The buyer needs to pay any taxes and if the item were pricey, they would have had to pay a customs fee too.   That buyer obviously wanted your item to pay that much.

Ebay wants you to believe that but it isn't true. The shipping cost from here directly to the UK would have been $17.85 according to the USPS and shipstation sites. Add in the cost of the product and the VAT tax of $1.40 and the total cost to the customer would be $22.75. It takes longer for them to get it too. It's easier for sellers because they collect and pay the VAT tax, but we don't even get the full amount of domestic shipping that the customer paid. We get the net after ebay's fee.  I include gsp in my listings to make it easier for me with the VAT fees, but there is actually no benefit for a buyer.

@gloryglorygifts

Actually sending by usps in this case would have cost more than ebay international shipping. VAT would have been $4.27 as it is charged on the item and the full cost of shipping.

17.85 +3.50 = 21.35 + 4.27 VAT = $25.62.

eBay international shipping appears to cost slightly less than the gsp so it may work out to be a bit better than the gsp although I suspect it will still be slower than shipping directly.  But perhaps I will be surprised.

I don't see it mentioned anywhere on the internet, USPS, UPS, Shipstation, etc., that VAT is collected on shipping and value of the product. It is charged based solely on the value of the item sold. What is your source? This is from UPS.com.
