Hello,
I recently decided to use a Medium Flat Rate Box for an auction item. I'm totally confused about the options that have to be selected. Since flat rate boxes will ship any weight, and the dimensions are known, why do I have to enter the dimensions and weight into the calculator? Also, why does it ask for a price? I thought the point of the flat rate box was one predetermined fee for anything that will fit in the box.
Plus, I had to round up the dimensions because it wouldn't accept 11.25x8.75x6.
If there's a youtube video showing the input process on the eBay form, please share the link.
Can somebody help me understand this, please?

Are you talking about the listing form or the label purchase page? I assume the listing form.
1. You have to enter a shipping cost when you offer flat rate shipping no matter which service you offer. You do not have to enter a shipping cost when you use calculated shipping. If you change the listing to calculated and select medium flat rate box, eBay's system will automatically calculate the USPS rate for a med flat rate box.
2. eBay's system does not prefill dimensions based on shipping service selected. It's up to the seller to enter accurate dimensions. You can leave dimensions blank if you're offering a USPS flat rate option (for the time being, that could change in the future), but that can screw things up if international shipping is offered.
3. There is a weight limit for a medium flat rate box. If you enter a weight that exceeds 70 lb you cannot use that service. It's also important to note that international shipping can be screwed up if you enter the wrong weight.
Bottom line: you should enter accurate weight and dimensions for all your listings, even if you're using flat rate packaging.
