A buyer bought an item from me, and USPS was not able to deliver saying "Insufficient Address" since the buyer did not put the full/complete address. Thereby the item is getting returned to me.
The buyer called their bank and opened a case (at their bank) against me for a full refund.
I also noticed now that the buyer has a zero feedback rating, perhaps this was the first time they made a purchase on ebay. I contacted ebay who said they cannot open a case as only one case can be opened to avoid any confusion, and this time the buyer created a case with their bank.
I emailed the buyer twice (been about 2 weeks now), saying I will refund in FULL if they do not get their item, and I requested them to provide their correct address to me, so I could attempt at asking for a redelivery. But I get no response at all.
Since the fault was not mine, and I spent a few dollars on the shipping label/costs, I feel cheated if the bank forces me to pay the full amount in refund. I would think a fair thing would be to refund minus my shipping label costs at least. Not sure what the bank will decide on this, but this is the first time I came across such a nice buyer! Did not even contact me when I tried to help.
I guess I now have to believe my friend who once told me that no good deed goes unpunished.

@powerdealsforu You seem to be a new seller so welcome to the world of online selling, where you have to learn to deal with situations such as this. Selling online to perfect strangers means sometimes, though not very often, transactions do go wrong. It does sound like you encountered a new buyer who doesn't have experience in how to navigate this platform. Buyers are not required to contact a seller, but of course this all would have been resolved if they had contacted you first. No the bank will not withhold any portion for you as the seller. Buyer didn't receive what they paid for so they will receive a full refund. That's how it works. You will get back your item so you can resell it for a bit higher to make up for any fees you are out.
Just keep in mind the majority of transactions go off without any hitches so concentrate on that and put this one behind you. You'll make up for your loss on another sale. Best of luck to you....

Thanks for the kind words. I am actually not a new seller, I have been selling on ebay since Oct-19-00, which is over 20 years (this account of mine is new yes, so based on this current account, it does look like I am new to ebay) and this has happened to me the first time in 20 years. Am I lucky? From what you wrote, it does look like I am very lucky. One such case in 21 years seems terrific.
As per my case of INR, I do not know who will contact me as I am still waiting. But being with zero fault, I am ready to talk to anyone who wants to talk to me.
What I learnt from this? Just like people, buyers can be honest or dishonest; truthful, or liars. You never know what you will get.

I had a somewhat similar case. A buyer opened a complaint with their bank saying they did not authorize or recognize the transaction.
BUT since payment came to me through managed payments eBay stepped in and acted as a middleman. I provided proof that the item was delivered to the address on my eBay screen. eBay closed the case. eBay, using their own money not mine, issued a refund to the buyer. I got to keep the sales amount. An example of the Seller Protection that oh so many people on these boards claim does not work.
I realize your case is a little different BUT DO NOT deal direct with the buyer. Deal with the Item Not Received claim in eBay.

For what it's worth... I find that if an item sells once, it will again. Good luck on finding the right buyer next time.

Actually they did. They bought an item and paid for shipping to an address they selected.
They got exactly what they asked and paid for.

@powerdealsforu You have the correct attitude to deal with this so I can see you will be just fine. Yes you've been very lucky to only have one issue in that many years. I can count on one hand the amount of returns I've had in over 20 years, but still I have had more than you apparently.
The returns process is all automated as there are too many transactions on any given day for this platform. No one is looking at your case. When a case is opened by the buyers bank it will always close on the side of the buyer, most likely why they went in that direction. At the end of the day you will get your item back and you can resell it for a higher amount to make up for any fees you are out. You will be made whole again. Best of luck to you....
