I offer UPS to Canada, Ebay charges the buyer for it, but makes me use a more expensive service!

This makes no sense to me. When building a listing, I decide to offer UPS to Canada since some people there have told me they prefer it. And in the little shipping calculator it provides a price based on my dimensions. So I know it's possible. Lo and behold, the winning bidder is from Canada. And he pays the exact same price I saw on Ebay's calculator. But, when I go to print a label, UPS is nowhere to be found in the label generator. Instead, it forces me to use USPS or EIS, both of which of which are more expensive. So now I either have to cough up the difference in money, or go to UPS and enter the order from scratch (and who knows what it will cost since it will lack the Ebay discount).  Thanks Ebay!

I can't speak directly as to why UPS is not an option on your shipping page.

But, I can offer a work around by going to pirateship.com and creating an account there.

It will 'import' the buyer information from ebay when it is available for you...

It also offer discounted rates on UPS

It can finish this job for you until you figure out why you have lost the ability to offer UPS to Canada

If you use EIS for international you can not have direct options.  It is one or the other.  So you should not even have USPS international available either on a EIS enabled listing.

Shipping UPS to Canada may be cheaper for you, but is the most expensive for the buyer, because of outrageous brokerage fees.  Plus you run the risk of a buyer refusing to pay them and your stuck doing so.

EIS is also more expensive, but everyone knows up front what the charges will be.  USPS is the cheapest depending on the item as there are no brokerage fees.

I'm not sure what you mean. In the auction builder, it specifically states you can choose other shipping services. Here is the quote:  "When you choose another international shipping service, we’ll use it instead of eBay International Shipping, wherever applicable."

If you use pirateship for shipping, Ebay still takes their percentage of the shipping cost, right?

Yes, ebay charges on the total paid by buyer.

You can not have both EIS and direct international on a listing.  Remove EIS and see if the UPS option reappears.

The seller is not using EIS, they are referring to ebay international standard delivery (EISD) which is still an option when printing a label. I checked a few of their listings and they show USPS and UPS.

I am fairly sure that ebay does not offer international UPS labels but as  someone suggested, they can purchase them on Pirateship.   I don't know why ebay doesn't offer it but the topic has come up before.

It depends what country the buyer is from. If he is from Canada, he will see UPS because I chose it for Canada. If there's a country I haven't chosen a service for, those people will see EIS charges.

I do in fact use EIS, but I started offering other choices because several people asked me why I won't ship any of my electronic items overseas. I tell them yes I do, I use EIS.  They say no you don't, the shipping price is missing. So either there's a technical glitch, or there's something about my items that prevents EIS from shipping them, like hazardous materials (but a boombox isn't hazardous).  Or dimensions (no, none of my items exceed the maximum dimensions).  You would think it would be in Ebay's best interests to contact me to tell me what's wrong.  But they don't.  That's why I started offering other shipping options, so that overseas buyers could at least bid on them.

Actually, I was partially wrong.  I do see some EIS listings and some others using USPS and UPS.   The ones that I looked at that are using EIS are using it for all countries but then I didn't check all of your listings.  I assumed when you said that you were comparing ebay international and USPS that you meant EISD since you can print a label for it even if your listings shows usps.

EIS does limit certain items from being shipped through them and some don't seem to make sense.

Yes, the Final Value Fee is the "TOTAL" of the sale...

regardless of where you originate your shipping...

Pirateship (as an example) has the same if not lower in some cases USPS and UPS Rates as ebay offers.....

I've seen that EISD thing before, but I don't understand how it's different from EIS, and they've never explained it satisfactorily, so I've never used it.

As you said, it doesn't matter where you buy the shipping label as the final value fee is the total of what the buyer paid.  But it does work differently if the item is being shipped internationally. In that situation, the fvf will be based on the lowest domestic shipping cost.
