How to void a label for lost package?

I sold a DVD on September 23rd, and today (October 4th) the buyer asked for a refund because the tracking number shows as only lavel created and waiting for pickup. The buyer lives in the same state, and packages mailed a week after have already arrived to the opposite side of the country, so I just assume the package dropped into a USPS mailbox in front of the post office was lost. I am trying to void or refund the shipping label, but apparently that is not an option? For a shipping label that shows as just created and never scanned, is there any way to get a refund for it? Was sent Media Mail. 😞

@anderegg

Sorry, you only have 5 days to void a shipping  label.

How to void a label for lost package?

Alas, the deadline for voiding an unused eBay postage label is 5 days after purchase.

It might still show up. Small packages sometimes get overlooked at the bottom of bins

Like I said, it's been 10 days and it was traveling 150 miles...the fact no one has scanned it tells me it is never going to show up, especially since laterMedia Mail DVDs I sent made it thousands of miles in less time mailed after this one. 😞

This is one of the reasons I like using stamps.com and pirateship.com for labels when I'm not looking for the extra 3% TRS Priority Mail discount. Stamps and Pirate both give you something like 3-4 weeks to void a label versus eBay's measly 5 days.

The good news here is that it was a media mail label for a single DVD so we're not talking big bucks.

Having said all that, September 23rd was less than 2 weeks ago and this is a media mail package. Media is s-l-o-w and low priority to begin with. Stack that with USPS current shipping lags. Stack that with many packages not getting scanned after the initial drop off or first sort facility until they reach the buyer's state. I say all hope is not lost. The package could pop up on tracking any day now. Sign up for e-mail or text tracking updates for this package at USPS.com so you don't need to keep checking the status.

How to void a label for lost package?

Not really such a big surprise, since Media mail is somewhere near the top of the new USPS "We don't care" list.

Case in point:  I ordered 15 magazines on September 7 from a seller in West Virginia.  Rather than send them to me via USPS Priority, he chose instead to ship them via USPS Media (a definite no-no -- according to USPS rules, magazines are NOT allowed to be shipped as USPS Media, no matter how OLD they are).

Two weeks later, they were still stuck in West Virginia.

The latest update shows them sitting in New Jersey since September 27.

But I'm in Minnesota -- entirely the WRONG direction.

If the magazines had been properly shipped via USPS Priority, I probably would have received them no later than September 12.

At this point, I haven't a clue when they may be delivered -- if ever -- and I'll be opening up an INR claim against the seller next week.

Gonna be a "wonderful" holiday season on eBay, right, boys and girls?!?

PirateShip will refund your unused label even a month later.  eBay just rips you off the price of a label not voided within 5 days.

You can not void the label.

I've been through this many times, especially when the USPS became a political tool and the mail slowed down so quickly.  My guess is the buyer will receive the item and I would ask very politely if that happened.  eBay doesn't care and even if you can show delivery, it's up to you to try to get the buyer to pay or return the item.
