I recently sold four (4) items 12.5lbs each in which I removed my previous 'combine shipping costs' , as I was not going to put them all in one box but ship 4 individual packages. When the buyer's payment came in with shipping costs the total weight was added and a '1 of 1' shipping label was created within ebay. I talked with ebay rep who said 'that will be ok, just print out 4 labels'. When I went to ship at local UPS store, found out only one tracking number was avail. So I had to buy a large box for $25 and ship out. What is best practice when selling large items you don't want to combine in one box? How does the system know (for my example) they bought 4 items and also need to buy 4 printing labels as well.
Sorry for long explanation! Thanks for any help!

You got bad advice from the eBay rep. eBay allows sellers to purchase up to 5 labels for each transaction. Next time, when you purchase the first label, adjust the dimensions and weight to describe just one box. After you purchase that label, there should be an option to "Purchase another label for this order." Go to the next screen, enter the weight and dimensions for box #2, and so on through the 4 label purchases.
It was totally ridiculous for the rep to suggest that you could pay only once and use that label 4 times. UPS (or any other carrier) doesn't know or care that your 4 packages are part of one eBay transaction.
