Like the title says, I sold 3 items. Buyers paid me $42.92 for me to ship to them. Ebay has now sent me an invoice that includes $45.55 in shipping fees. Is this normal? If so, my 17 year-old account will be closed.

Those "shipping" fees are probably the final value fee ON shipping. Unless you used a fedex label, ebay doesn't bill you for shipping costs. Ebay's final value fee is 10% of the total amount of the sale and the charge appears on your invoice as 2 separate line items--10% of the item price and 10% of the shipping cost. You can close your account but not before you paid what you owe and there will be a 6 month waiting period before the account closes.

You may have misread the monthly invoice that eBay sends out each month - just received ours within the last two days. This invoice reflects all the FVFs from the prior month sales activity and includes the FVFs charged for shipping along with any applicable listings fees, eBay store fees etc. The FVFs are listed by each sales transaction.
If the buyer paid you $42.92 for shipping 3 items your eBayFVF would be a max of $4.29.
When you buy your shipping lable thru eBay lables the cost is auto deducted from your PayPal account at the time of purchase.

OK, you can dial back the threats; they don't cut any ice here.
First question: did you ship via FedEx? If so, that's the FedEx shipping cost, which is billed directly through eBay on your monthly invoice.
Second question: have you looked at the details on your invoice? That should tell you exactly what you're being charged for.

have you looked at the details on your invoice?

Yep. Why check the detailed documentation, when you can rant instead? Ranting is fun.

My guess is that you shipped that guitar you sold via FedEx.
So, there's not need to "quit eBay" since eBay is not going to give you a free shipping service ... you simply need to pay for your shipping.
