Handling a carrier adjustment due to buyer missing apt number

I recently sold an item and it arrived to the correct address listed and it was adjusted since it was missing the apartment number. The adjustment was automatic and I had no say in it. I was charged for that and wanted to know what I could to handle it. The buyer did not have an apartment number on their address but it arrived.

You could try to send a message to buyer regarding this matter and ask him to pay the additional amount. The odds of buyer actually paying for it is minimal. Perhaps send a message to eBay though its facebook presence might help. Hopefully the amount is minimal.

Assuming you shipped using eBay's UPS account instead of your own UPS account, you were unable to turn off address correction which, if I'm not mistaken, is not insignificant. Maybe $16?

I'd contact the buyer and ask if they'll pay it. Word your message very carefully. Mention to them that they can update their address here and should check the address before they pay for future purchases so this doesn't happen to another seller.
