Sorry if this is a stupid question--but I've been using the Ebay shipping calculator to check rates on shipping some larger items as it appears to be less expensive than USPS with the Ebay discounted rate. Does FedEx charge a fee for picking up items from my house?

Fed ex picks up packages? I take mine to their office.

FedEx charges at least $8 per package to pick it up from a residential address (it could be more depending on location).
I'm pretty sure this service cannot be purchased through eBay at the time of buying the label, but you can create a FedEx account and purchase pick-ups through that account:

If you've never shipped through FedEx, keep in mind that the price you pay is not necessarily the price quoted by eBay. FedEx has surcharges that depend on many factors. Most importantly, take the time to read through the "surprise" surcharges that are assessed for packaging that doesn't meet their standards ... this can be found beginning on page 98 of their 2021 Service Guide. Pay particular attention to page 99 and 110 (if shipping large packages).

Thanks so much. Ebay isn't clear about additional charges on the shipping calculator page. I don't mind helping my customer save a few dollars on shipping but not willing to tie up the time of standing in line at the FedEx facility. I was fortunate that in my eBay heyday I sold primarily books so most of my shipping was media mail or flat rate Priority.

I can fit almost anything in a flat rate bubble envie. I can stuff those things like no one else.
My dad always told me I could shove 10 lbs of carp into a 5 lb space and I prove it every day I sell!

I'm not sure what is around you, but there are no lines at FedEx where we are. Also, FedEx has a lot of drop-off locations, including stores like Walgreens, Dollar General, Office Depot, etc.

Nearest drop off is a twenty minute drive. I think for me it will be more cost effective to just go with USPS.

I NEVER stand in line - not at USPS, UPS or FedEx. If you have a prepaid label all you need to do is drop it on the counter and leave.
Yes, some will give you horror stories but I have NEVER had a problem as long as the label is calculated correctly.
