Lately, I've noticed that some of the FedEx packages I drop off at my local FedEx office are immediately hard-scanned as 'delivered' when they are picked up by the driver. So, in the tracking info, I see the package acceptance scan when I initially drop it off. Then when the driver comes to pick it up from the drop off location hours later, it is hard-scanned as 'delivered'.
When I call FedEx to ask about it, they can't tell me why the driver would do that. They try and tell me that it could be a system error or driver mistake. Then they assure me that they have the package and that it is still being transported but they warn me that their online tracking system won't update and that I will need to call the 800 number to get updates on the delivery.
When I check online to see who signed for these packages, it shows "Signed by CVID". The reps can't maintain their 'system/driver error' speech when I point that out. The times I've called FedEx about this, they assure me it is not their policy to do this and that the issue will be escalated and that it should not happen again. Then, it happens again and the cycle seems to continue.
Is this FedEx's way of skirting around their delivery times? What's going on? It doesn't happen to all my packages just some of them - interestingly, usually the packages with the furthest delivery addresses.
I guess it's not a huge deal from an ebay policy perspective but it sure has created a lot of customer questions/concerns, and often, I'm not even sure the customer believes me until the package shows up or until they call FedEx themselves.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it just my local pick up driver?

My driver does the same, every time he picks up, it is immediately "delivered". I confronted him and he claims he does nothing wrong and that he always switches his handheld device to "pick up mode". Since I am obviously not familiar with their internal tools, I cannot prove him wrong . The fedex.com tracking eventually updates in a day or two, it shows up a second package with the same number, which tracks normally. eBay tracker won't update though. I get messages from frustrated buyers and just tell them that my Fedex driver is an idiot and I send them a link to the Fedex tracking site. Buyers see the working tracking and are satisfied with the response.
