I had four industrial lights and I put in the weight and dimensions of one light in the details. The customer bought all four yet the size and weight wasn’t adjusted accordingly. I got to FedEx, she told me the weight is 31.1 pounds not 24 and obviously the dimensions were incorrect. I had mentioned that it seemed a little low, regarding the initial shipping cost. But I notified the customer at that exact moment that weight was higher and that eBay had not adjusted correctly. But then I get an outrageous additional charge the other day, so basically I’ve given these lights away and lost money in this order. I requested a call from eBay a couple of days ago when it happened and in the feed, it said to be expecting a call in two minutes. An hour and a half later I still hadn’t received a call and I was so angry but I didn’t want to take it out on them so I didn’t reach back out. What should I do regarding the crazy charge from FedEx, and the fact that the customer nor eBay did not reply back to me? Wouldn’t you think that when she was telling me how to tape them together after Weighing them that the dimension adjustment would have been corrected or adjusted then?
And then, as you can see here, They were stacked tightly and taped securely and not shipped end to end making them longer. So why did the almost 2 inch edition that was added as a buffer get increased? I’m so confused and so upset

The customer / buyer is not required to pay more than the original cost - ever.

The "billable weight" is not the actual weight of the item. It is a combination of the "dimensional weight" and the actual dimensions that equal what they call "billable weight", so the 31.3 compared to the 37 is not the actual weight of just the item, but the factor of weight X dimensions. They do not break it down to weight + dimensions, they put it together and call it "billable weight"...it can be very confusing.....
The dimension corrections (actual) seem excessive...thats a pretty big discrepancy from what you measured.....
curiousity just got the best of me...how can a 4 foot fixture fit in a 48" box?

Were the boxes good and square? If budged or slant sided, they will measure off the widest point. If that stack of boxes pushed a bit to one side that could do it. They take both size and weight when billing. There are also over size limits, cross one even by a mm and the rate kicks up.
It almost as Fedex no longer wants business from small shippers but does not want to say that outright.

Weight - Billable weight is the maximum of scale weight and dimensional weight. The dimensional weight calculation that FedEx is using is 49x13x10 / 166 = 38.4 ... rounded up that is 39 pounds. (By the way, your presumed dimensions of 48x14x10 has a dimensional weight of 41 pounds.)
Size Surcharge - FedEx has a package handling surcharge for any package that exceeds 48 inches in one dimension. This surcharge varies between $22 and $27
Frankenboxes - This is taping together multiple boxes into a single shipment. USPS has no problem with it, but FedEx may slap you with a Non-standard packaging surcharge of $20 to $25.
eBay FedEx quotes - eBay does not provide accurate prices in their quotes for shipping through FedEx. Why? FedEx shipping is complicated, and I assume eBay believes that you are responsible for knowing all the policies and surcharges described in the 178 page FedEx Service Guide.

FedEx has the best eBay shipping discounts, but what good is it when you get a notice of underpayment after the item is paid for and shipped, 32.00 additional charge.
No more FedEx, on large or heavy items I'll try UPS or Pickup only from now on, I really don't need surprise charges.
