I've been selling some old pokemon cards lately. I know there is a new option to send cards in paper envelopes for less than $1, but since most of my cards are in the 30-90 dollar range I don't feel comfortable with this and have been setting them with 1st class mail (usually in the $4-$5 range) ONLY so I can reinforce them with cardboard in a bubble mailer.
Lo and behold today I sold one of my cheaper cards today for $17, I look at the order summary and somehow the buyer managed to only pay 0.91 cents in shipping. They were able to pick the card envelope shipping method even if I DIDN'T select it as a shipping option on any of my listings. In fact when I look at the listing, with my own zip code in the estimator it tells me that I will have to pay 1st class at $4 and has no other option. I put in the buyer's zip code and the estimator says $4.45. But somehow buyers are able to select the cheap card option in checkout.
I don't mind it for this card since it's on the cheaper end but I'm annoyed that eBay is automatically selecting an option I didn't pick and that I could have missed and shipped and lost $3.50 on. I also have to go out and buy paper envelopes for this now.
I think this is applying to cards under $20 only, but this seems to be a new occurrence because I sold a $16 card on March 10 and a $18 one on March 4th and they both paid for First Class Mail package.
