Ebay messes up stuff everytime. So i sell ACEO ART cards. And i price them around 9.99 plus .99 shipping. I usually ship them in an envelope with 55 cents forever stamps and no tracking with in the usa. It reaches just fine and works out great for me. So this ebay auto enrolled me without my knowledge to golbal shipping program and before i could catch and change the settings to 'un' enroll one of my art cards were sold. At the time it was sold i was still not aware of the international sale. The buyer had a kentucky address and there was strange reference number so i wrote the name and reference number and sent it in the mail on nov 16th. And today on nov 19th i notice a ' tracking number ' and it being an international sale! The tracking number was generated the day i shipped with just forever stamp and no tracking , i just marked shipped and did not add any tracking. I called ebay and they told me that once it reaches kentucky They will take over. But my question will they be able to connect my mail to this international buyer just witht he reference number i wrote along with his name on the top of the mail. There is no local tracking. I am mad at ebay for this atuo enrolling without notification. It sucks

The reference number is all that is needed to ID the package and the buyer. Since you have the ref# on the label, there should be no problem.
Once the package is processed at the shipping depot, it will be assigned another tracking number for the international journey, and from that point on you and the buyer will be able to track the progress on the eBay page.
The Global Shipping Program is an easy, low-risk way to ship internationally. You might want to stay with it, it could increase your sales, without added hassle.

Thank you. There is no shipping label , i just wrote the name, reference number and ky address on the envelope and sent it as normal first class mail without tracking. But them being able to connect this to the buyer just with the reference number makes me feel so much better. I will monitor this and update.

It doesn't matter if the reference number is on the envelope, or on a label, as long as it's on the item when you sent it!
All they need is the reference number, as long as it arrives at the shipping depot with the number, they will take it from there.

I hadn't thought of this before but I'm curious if you know the answer......If a global shipping item gets lost after it leaves the global shipping center, will the fact that there is a global tracking number showing that the item left the center be enough for the gsp to take responsibility for the lost parcel? Or, would the seller lose an inr because there is no actual tracking number showing that the item arrived at the Kentucky center?

IIRC, the first thing that shows up on the Pitney Bowes website using the tracking number, is a note that the package was received. Then, there will be another when it gets processed, and then when it gets shipped on.
I think that once they tracking number is assigned by Pitney Bowes, that would be proof that they received the package from the seller. From that point on, it is their responsibility.

From what I understand about the GSP, once the item is delivered there, seller is good.
If it gets lost or damaged after that, it on the GSP.
If there is no tracking showing the item was delivered to the GSP, that's on the seller if buyer files an INR.

Even if the seller didn't use tracking, once the package is shown as received at the GSP, the seller should be covered.
I've never had a GSP package lost (being shipped from the UK to the USA) but most of them did not have tracking for the Royal Mail/Parcel Post delivery to the GSP shipping depot in the UK.

Still no update on the tracking. Don't know if the KY center is processing it or not. This is frustrating. its been 5 days since i shipped. In domestic shipping my envelopes reach US buyers within 3 days just fine via USPS directly. Now i don't know if this 'middleman' ebay service center is connecting the reference number to the buyer's address. They should have received it by now.
So any idea how long will they take after they receive it to process it?
My item is in a small envelope i don't see any need for repackaging or anything.
Hopefully this global shipping works and i don't get any negative feedback from this buyer for a lost mail due to it being lost in the KY center. I will have to call ebay and get it removed , since its their mistake of updating my listing preferences from domestic to international without my knowledge. Auto enrolling without my permission is like crossing boundaries and then asking me to accept or not.

It usually takes a few days for processing at the GSP center.
If the address and reference number were hand-written, they may have to process it manually rather than automatically. They will probably have to repackage it because just an envelope may not be suitable for international shipping. They will also have to put a new label on it.
I have never had a GSP item repackaged, but mine were all shipped as packages, not letters.

Takes about 3 days to go through GSP, paper work with customs, new shipping #. The buyer pays the extra shipping to GSP at the same when he pays for your item. It is a good system, received many an item to Canada this way.

At this point all i can do is wait and see what happens. I will update when i get any new information on the tracking. Thanks guys for your timely responses, its very helpful for me to get some idea about whats going on here. And yes i hand wrote the address and reference number , so it might be a manual update. So lets see what happens.

Finally some tracking updates!.
They at KY accepted my mail on Nov 21. Did all the customs and labels processing and shipped it out to the buyer on 23rd that is today, there is a new global tracking number. I am relieved. So someone must have manually updated the reference number. Took a week since i shipped from my end. So finally my art work is om its way to the buyer :). Thanks everyone especially lacemaker3 for helping me understand this process , i really appreciate your help.
