Creating a prepaid shipping label

I haven't had to do this in a long time but it seems like it was easy to buy a label through paypal... now it seems they might be making you sign up with Ship Station. What is the easiest way to buy a prepaid label so I can print it out and send to my customer? Is Paypla still the easiest or will I be required to now sign up with Shipstatio? I have a USPS account but I do not believe I am signed up with Click n Ship... can I easily buy a label directly through USPS without Click n Ship?

Why not buy it directly through eBay?

And using eBay automatically uploads your tracking number.

This is not a situation where I sent the wrong item. I am sending them the correct item and I need to create a prepaid label for them to send the other item back. We are not creating a return case through Ebay.

Gotcha. Not to rain on your parade, but will you get the other item back? This seems like a perfect opportunity for the buyer to get free stuff. Just a thought...

I meant this IS a situation where I sent the wrong item. I knew it would be mentioned that I could get jerked but I am reasonably confident they will send the item back... plus it is not a high value item anyway. So what is the easiest method to pay for a prepaid label that I can send to them?

Easiest method is to have them open a return, then a label can be generated. It looks like you have free returns, and you pay anyway, so the buyer can just select Did Not Like or something that doesn't hit you in the metrics, like an INAD would.

As said above, the least messy option is to have the buyer open a return then you can relist the item and they can repurchase.

If you prefer to send the return label and work off trust then I recommend creating an account at pirateship.com - just remember to put the buyer's address in the ship-from field.

Yep - right here.

You can still create labels through Paypal using your Pay[pal balance although they do then shunt you over to Shipstation to actually print it. BUT you do not actually need an account with ship station.

Now I know that if you open an account with Shipstation they charge a monthly membership fee. However, you can open an account with Pirateship.com and there is NO monthly or any other fee (other than the cost of the postage of course) and their postal rates are the same and sometimes less than eBay.

There is one last trick although it is a bit of a cheat. Go to the sale itself and click on "print label". It will warn you that you already printed a label. Ignore it. Then when you are ready to print BUT BEFORE YOU CLICK PRINT click the buyer's address edit button and change it to your own address. The cheat is that if the buyer is some distance away from you then you are fudging the postage and may get a back charge for using the wrong "send from" ZIP code. eBay used to allow you to change that but I'm not sure that still exists. I would use this as a last resort only. If however he is in the same general postal zone as you it shouldn't be a problem.

Hope this helps.

So tell me if I understand this right please. If you go to paypal.com/shipnow they will hand you over to Shipstation to handle the label purchase. I found the prices for a Shipstation subscription and the lowest monthly price is $9/month after you finish a free trial period. But if all I am doing is printing an occasional label there for something other than an Ebay sale after starting at paypal.com/shipnow am I actually getting a Shipstation subscription - or a free trial anyway - by buying one label?

I use the Shipnow link once in a blue moon and have no desire for a Shipstation monthly subscription. I have a Click-n-ship login as well but I thought that the Shipnow link got me slightly lower prices when printing non-Ebay labels.

No, they do not actually "hand you over" to Shipstation. Paypal will still handle the label and the payment. It is just that they print it using their own account with Shipstation. But you DO NOT have to have an account with Shipstation. Any more than you need an account with the post office to print postage through eBay.

If you buy it through Paupal you WILL NOT be forced into a Shipstation account or any fees.

Just have the buyer open a case and have the choose “wrong item sent” and eBay will send them a label. Easy peasy for the buyer.
