Calling in to close out Return requests when expired

So I just talked with my concierge and in conversation she mentioned that the automated system ebay implemented to automatically close out returns when the buyer return window has passed... DOESN'T WORK.

It's never worked for me from the start... I believe we even talked about this in an old post and Brian confirmed that the system wasn't working properly. But still ebay was hanging onto the policy that we weren't allowed to call in and request the returns close out. We were just to be patient, wait, and hope the system eventually catches it to close.

Today, my concierge told me that they are allowed to take calls to close them out now. Glad she told me because I currently had two that expired, one on the 29th, the other on the 30th. So yea... everyone make sure to call in to close your returns when the buyer window expires. Don't rely on ebay.

Calling in to close out Return requests when expired

And yet, also on the 30th, I called to close a return that was supposed to ship by 12/29.

This is the response I got:

We apologize that we are unable to close this return as the following now apply:

Buyers have fewer opportunities to return items in the current environment.

For this reason, we are not closing return requests early.

The request will expire if the buyer does not ship your item back.

The return will timeout in 21-35 business days.

21-35 DAYS ???????? That's the narrowest window you can offer?

So apparently WE are expected to get everything out the door IMMEDIATELY even though we are facing the same "fewer opportunities" to ship that the buyer is allegedly facing. What a croc.

I can not teach anybody anything
I can only make them think

Yea I dunno. Maybe the automated service or filing thru online didn’t catch that memo. Maybe you have to talk to someone on the phone.

That being said, it’s fine if they aren’t closing out returns early... but yours isn’t early. It’s actually late because it didn’t close out automatically on 12/30. But who’s anyone to argue with a scripted response, right?

I just had a return case closed by contacting eBay on FB eBay for Business.

I had a buyer claiming he received a game disc so scratched it wouldn't play when it was shipped to him brand new never used. eBay provided him with return shipping label and a date to ship buy. He didn't ship it by the date.

I got on FB and gave them the transaction numbers and details and asked them to look into it.

They messaged me the next day that they refunded the buyer out of pocket no cost to me and closed the case.

They didn't even charge me for the return shipping label the buyer never used.

The buyer still got his free item, but it didn't cost ME anything.

Business days. That's 5-8 weeks. I got the same response from eBay when I tried to close some of mine. I have these customers that finally get their items and immediately open rage-returns, knowing full well they'll never return anything. Then they just let it sit and time out, most likely basking in the fact that I'm now the one that has to wait.

Jokes on them! I've tricked myself into believing that all my money on hold from cases is actually just a savings account I opened on eBay that spits out surprise deposits every once in a while.
