Buyer gave incorrect address, item being returned to me

I sold an item and shipped it last week, USPS tracking says delivery was attempted today but it's being returned to me because "no such number/incorrect address." The shipping label was purchased and printed through ebay, using the address the buyer provided to ebay. What are my next steps? After it returns to me, the buyer should be refunded as I don't want an Item Not Received case (which would not be my fault since the address used is the one the buyer inputted), but how does the process work?  This is my first time dealing with this and I want to get ahead of this now, so any help is appreciated!

The last I heard, the buyer has voided the MBG with the return as it was handled. I guess you wait to see if the buyer still wants it, then you'll have to send it to the correct address, at the buyer's expense, of course.

And how do you invoice them for the reshipping now that ebay hides all the emails?

Don't do anything until the package is returned to you. Once it is returned to you in the same condition, contact the buyer to see if they want to pay to reship OR if they want to be refunded minus shipping fees (if the item was not listed with free shipping).

I had a case like that last month.  Buyer had zero feedback.  Address was incomplete and the item was returned to me.  Buyer said she wanted the item and would pay extra to have it expedited to her.  . I was very hesitant to sell the item to her and her pay expedited shipping.  I just cut my losses and relisted the item.  I refunded her purchase price of course.    I did not feel comfortable with this deal.

There is no "process"

First thing after the item is back with you is have your buyer open an INR, then call and have it closed. Now your buyer can no longer leave negative feedback.

Offer to reship the item if/when the buyer pays shipping again.

If they don't want to pay shipping again, ignore them until they do.

Invoice them through paypal. Do not use ebay or paypal to print the label, remember the shipping is not discounted. Get tracking but do not upload it.

Ship item and forget about it forever.

Is the buyer brand new or has changed their address recently?  If not, it's probably a mistake by the USPS or UPS.  If the address is correct, you need to tell the carrier to deliver the package.  But don't do anything until the package is returned.  I once had a package that a seller said it was being returned.  The item was sitting on my desk and it was obviously a miss-scan.  I reassured the seller and immediately left positive feedback, and that was the end of it.  This summer has been worse that Christmas for all the carriers due to volume.  Mistakes happen.
