I had a buyer send back an item and Ebay auto approved the return. I just got the item back and went to issue the refund, but the refund won't go through...the message keeps stating there was a problem issuing the refund, try again later. I've tried again, same message.
The only reason I can think of is that I have no automatic payment method on file, and I will not put one on file because I am done selling on Ebay once I issue this refund.
Can I issue the refund through Paypal? Will Ebay issue the refund again if I do this?
Thanks
M

You need sufficient cash balance at PayPal @pennyforasong to cover the entire refund, including fees, which PayPal is no longer refunding.
Otherwise, eBay will be fall to mate the refunk dew to insufficient fun.

OP, this has been a recent change. I always keep a -0- balance in PP and when I make a refund, it goes as an e-check from my linked bank account. PP has made a policy change lately, without communicating it to the user base. PP now will NOT issue an echeck against a bank account. You have to have $ in your PP account to make a refund. Ebay, on the other hand, is giving a nonsensical error message that gives NO IDEA as to what the problem is.

I don't keep anything in Paypal either since the days that they stopped giving interest on the balance (4 score years ago) and thought that Ebay would just add it to my seller balance or take it out of the paypal linked account. This whole issue has been a debacle, just to refund a buyer a $7.99 refund.
And you are correct, the Ebay error message doesn't state WHY the refund won't go through, just "try again later". Well, you can try infinitely again later but apparently if the money isn't in the Paypal account, it won't go through.
Additionally, what happens in January when buyers want to return purchases that are unwanted gifts? You have to keep the balance of everything you sold on hand in paypal?
At least on Amazon they deal with returns, etc...within the balance of the Amazon account. If the $ isn't there for a refund, it just sends the balance negative and you settle up at the next transfer date. Ebay's version is idiotic.

While ebays error message is idiotic, this refund thing is PAYPALS problem, not ebay. Blame PayPal.
