Hello all,
I bit of background before we get into things when receiving a package from USPS since I live in a pretty bad neighborhood and they do not bring a package to my apartment door I always request it be held at my local office for pickup to ensure I get it without it being stolen.
On August 1st the seller gave the package to their local USPS office to be shipped towards me and on that same day as is custom I requested it be held at my local post office, for 2 days nothing eventful happens but the day before it was supposed to be delivered (the 3rd of August) 2 things occur, my request for it to be held at the post office was accepted and the package is now labeled as forwarded, this was pretty weird to me for two reasons,
1. looking into it forwarding requires an entire form to be filled out and a new address for mail to be forwarded to and I have lived in the same place for the past 5+ years
2. In the history logs my package was already in my local post office prior to the forwarded message so it doesn't make sense that my request to hold at that exact same post office would have triggered it to be sent somewhere else
After looking on the web apparently forwarding is also a used label for missent and it means it was actually sent to the wrong post office and is headed towards me and I'm hoping this is the case but in the off chance this package never arrives who is liable? From other posts, I have read that forwarding voids buyer protection but I did not request it be forwarded and in the USPS system all that shows is a request to be held at my local post office
Also for those wondering, The address on the package is correct, I have already gone to my local post office and they said they're looking into it and don't have it and for reference, the tracking history is below

If it got forwarded, the post office should know where it was forwarded to. So I would call your local post office and hammer on them to find out where is went.

You live in Washington Heights. Why don't you have your packages delivered to a UPS Store, FedEx/Kinko's (or whatever it's called now), a private mailbox place, or a PO Box at your local post office?
