Add a tracking number after marking an item as shipped?

Hello,

So this just happened.  Shipped an international package (tracking # important!) at the post office without using the print-a-label feature.

Got home after shipping the item.  Since I mailed it, I selected "Mark Item as Shipped", the option right above "Add a tracking Number".  My thinking was, "Well, I shipped it, so I will mark as shipped.  Then I'll add a tracking number!".

Unfortunately, after marking as shipped, the only options I get from the drop down options are "Contact Buyer" and "Leave Feedback".  Why does it not say add tracking?

So I went to try to backtrack by hitting "mark item as not shipped" to try to add the tracking number.  Unfortunately I just got the pop-up message "Something went wrong.  Try again later".

So now I just shipped an item, marked it as shipped, then tried to un-mark it as shipped, but don't know if un-marking it was successful.  No idea what my buyer sees on his end (thanks ebay).

Ended up just messaging the buyer the tracking number, something I dislike doing, its not as professional and can cause transparency issues. 

Is there anyway I can officially add a tracking number to my shipped item?

Anyone else have this issue?

Nevermind, solved, I think.

@jonb_1917   To double check you can try the See all orders page then on the item use the See order details on the pull down menu.  The next page has the Tracking over on the right AND there might be an "Edit" link instead of a tracking number ... click that and you should be able to add the tracking number to the Sold record.

How'd you do it?  I had same problem and clearing.....somthing in Settings did it?  Cant remember now and it's doing it again.

It is dumb that ebay does not allow Sellers to add a Tracking Number after we marked an item as Shipped.  I inadvertently marked an item as "Shipped," then went back to add Tracking Number. Unfortunately, that functionality is missing. Really??? This is basic functionality Sellers should have.

So now I was forced to message the buyer with a separate notification with Tracking No.

This needs to be fixed.

Nope. There is no "Add Tracking No" option available once we mark an item as Shipped. This is a serious oversight by the ebay developers. This basic functionality that must be added.

Mark as not shipped and then you can add tracking.

Are you using the app @newhall_station? Because if you use the website (this page) there is an add tracking link right under the item info, even after you mark as shipped. But for future reference, the act of adding tracking will automatically mark it shipped so you don't need to mark as shipped unless you're shipping without tracking.

Indeed there is. I would only use the app for bidding and buying, never to try to run a selling business. The desktop's Sold Items page offers the Add Tracking link in both the Actions menu and the standalone link shown in the screenshot.

My experience has been that if I'm manually marking an item as Shipped (usually because I included it with the shipment of another item whose label I have just purchased), the Add Tracking Number link that was previously part of the pulldown menu now becomes the default choice in the Actions column, which takes it out of the pulldown menu choices for some odd reason. I've found myself staring at the pulldown menu, wondering where the Add Tracking Number link has gone when I could swear it was right there a minute ago, only to finally notice it sitting up top as the default next Action. It's helpful to have that secondary link placed separately next to the item photo. Either link takes you to the same popup.

Had this same issue but just found where to add:

Via website, go to your sold listing and select "view order details".

On the order details page it will show that it has been shipped on whatever date you marked it as shipped, under that it lists the shipping address/info and to the right of that is a button that says "Add Tracking".

Yes, thank you! And the key is not to use the app. I have to uninstall the eBay app every time I need to do something like this!

Thanks, I've never made that mistake so never saw that flow that is referenced above in a post form 2022.
