The rate changes for FedEx is an absolute joke. Shipping anything over 1.0 pounds through FedEx SmartPost is $2.50-$3.00 more than before (about a 33% increase). It's now basically the same price to ship Priority mail instead of FedEx SmartPost (priority mail is about 20% higher than before, which is a joke too). FedEx is going to lose a ton of sellers shipping through them because of they're the insane price hike. FedEx got a 14%+ savings on their corporate taxes and they decided to raise their rates to the consumer...it makes no sense. When other, better ran companies, are sharing their savings with their employees and consumers FedEx is just trying to suck every penny they can out of consumers. Meanwhile, buyers on eBay are just expecting cheaper and cheaper items, which won't be possible when us sellers are going to have to raise our prices to offset the FedEx greed.

Fedex Smartpost rates are incorrect as well as some ground. It was all over the board over the weekend with 12.00 smartpost rates coming up as 28.00- 35.00 and some 21-23.00 ground rates changed to 145.00. Its incorrect. Look up 2017 and 2018 Smartpost rates on Google these on eBay are definately wrong. Why use smartpost if its more than USPS priority, Its stupid. We all know calling eBay is like pulling teeth and every time I get the great Idea to call them, I tell myself DONT DO IT!@!... but I did it anyway today after a weekend of fedex pricing all over the place when tried to print labels on a bunch of packages. What a mistake that was, just the same **bleep** starting out with a low level unskilled rep answering from the comfort of his home and then being passed to 4 other depts. to be told in the end it was Fedex not Ebay and nobody had a clue what I was talking about(just like all my other calls over the last 10 years). Called Fedex right after and they said eBay handles everything on ebay and they have nothing to do with. Currently, its still messed up! The next time I get the great idea to call eBay would someone please just stab me in the eye with a fork!

Here's what rates are suppose to be

From what I understand, FedEx has started charging dimensional weight on SmartPost packages as of Jan 22. So the rate will be the higher of the package weight OR dimensionsal weight. Here's a link I found explaining how DIM affects shipping rates. https://www.efulfillmentservice.com/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2017/06/Online-Sellers-Guide-to-Dim.... As the link syas, FedEx uses a divisor of 139 to come up with its dimensional weight.

Update: I have shipped 24 things since the changes took place. 0 of them have been shipped through FedEx SmartPost and all 24 through USPS (I will almost always just choose the cheaper option)....This is significant because before the changes I shipped through FedEx SmartPost 70% of the time. Good move by FedEx using the dimensional weight as a way to try and scam us out of our money. USPS is more reliable and faster, and now CHEAPER!

Well after two hours on the phone with eBay. I finally got a hold of a manager that agreed that their was a problem with smartpost. She said she would escalate the problem to an Fedex/eBay account manger. She did agree that smartpost is supposed to be the cheapest way to ship. Still unless others complain to eBay nothing will get done. Don't depend on others to do it for you. It is the only way something will get done. Until then I am going to look into UPS smartpost.

Totally agree. "Free shipping" is an impossibility, yet buyers expect it. There has to be a better solution. The door is wide open in this country to break this FedX / UPS near monopoly on price gouging. Anyone have a better carrier solution? I use all three. All outrageous.

Yes, I called to on 1/23. I too was a near all FedX Smartpost shipper before the hikes. EBay assured me they were aware of the problem in the calculator and have it escalated to their tech department with a 24 to 48 hour turntime to fix the problem. In the meantime, said explain to your buyer the problem if it calculates wrong. Of course buyer will not care and want the cheaper rate it calculated for them.

Hello everyone, I wanted to let you know that we are aware of some recent issues with FedEx SmartPost shipments. Recently, pricing changes were introduced and necessary updates were not made in time on our end. We are working to resolve problems with our shipping calculator, search results, view item pages and checkout. The pricing seen by sellers when printing SmartPost labels is accurate, but may be more than what the buyer was charged.
Until this is resolved, we recommend that sellers utilize an alternative service. Also be aware that lightweight packages (those under 10lb by weight or dimension) are typically the only sizes where SmartPost provides significant savings over other shipping services.
We apologize for any trouble this may have caused and will provide updates as they become available!

Another Update: It has been 8 days since the rate change. I've shipped out around 75 packages since the rate change. 73 of them have been USPS and 2 of them FedEx. Again, I shipped about 75% of my sales through FedEx before the rate change. The cost that FedEx is trying to get for their shipping is an absolute joke now.

I will never ship FedEx again. I used to ship about 20 packages a week through them. All my businees will be going to USPS.

Hi everyone, I have an update on this topic to share: we've implemented fixes to the way that FedEx SmartPost costs are displayed that should resolve the recent problem with buyers seeing a different price than what you see when you went to print labels. I apologize for the trouble this may have caused and recommend contacting Customer Service if you have any questions about the shipping discrepancies you may have run into while this was an issue.

what size packages are you talking here??? everything that I've been mailing that is over 3 pds has been way way cheaper with fedex. And heavier stuff ,forget about it Example 1 I'm doing today comes up: 16 pd package going from 14213 (buffalo,ny) to 96050 (california) 10x10x10 box. usps -priority 48.68 and parcel select is 50.18. If I go to usps website priority 3 day is 53.65 and 50.50 and you can't even buy that online. Fedex smartpost 19.01 and even fedex home delivery is 27.77. Am I the only 1 seeing this? I mean thats a 30.00 difference. Thats crazy. usps has always been way cheaper (12 years selling on ebay 1500 pos feedback 100%) and now itseems like around a year ago or so everything flipped and now fedex is way cheaper and the weird thing is that nobody seems to have noticed or is talking about it? Is this just me?
