sometimes and (this is very occasionally) I get a wild hair up, and list an item, and it sells.. it happened today that I packed sold item and went to create a shipping label via ebay, and my printer fires up but prints a misaligned and faintly printed ink not legible enough to attach and ship out..it has been months, (if not years?) since I last printed a label and it was working fine last time..I believe the ink inside cartridge simply dried up, but only guessing..it actually could be software out of date?..but, nonetheless, since I sell so little anymore I did not have a fresh backup new cartridge to swap out, so voided the label and run package to post office to ship..my question is why I cant revise the tracking no. to the actual one being used now..the defunct label tracking no. is still showing as current although it seems they could write software update to allow new updated tracking no. to be swapped out with the one now defunct.. It does give you ability to add another tracking no. in which I did but it seems like the tracking no no longer current should be deleted rather than kept..

If you click on that tracking number there may be a drop down arrow in the next screen showing the new number

true..but a tracking no. that is no longer current still resides onthe transaction page...there are two tracking numbers although just one is correct..to me, that makes no sense.. if nothing else it could be confusing to the addressee ..

I've not had the exact issue that you have, but I have had to add 2nd tracking number to shipments. We sell used auto parts, and live in a pretty rural area, not all carriers pick up items in our area (an engine for example).
So they use the network of smaller regional carriers to pick it up and bring to them (for some fee I'm sure agreed upon amongst the 2 companies).
I provide the original tracking number from the smaller carrier, and send the customer a message explaining that once the primary carrier receives their item, I will update with a second tracking number for them.
In your case, I would probably just send the buyer a message explaining what happened, and to use the 2nd tracking number as a point for the actual tracking of the item.
