Someone wants to win an auction ending today (Sunday the 19th) but pay Friday (the 24th). I told him he'll automatically get a payment reminder notice from Ebay. But when will Ebay close the case?

If you have the nonpayment process set up to automatically close the case, eBay will close it on Thursday. I believe there is a way to exclude this bidder from the automatic process, but I haven't tried that.

You can turn off the auto unpaid item, or lengthen the time allowed, or exclude this buyer from the requirements here -

Just clarifying that the option to exclude specific member ids does not appear until the toggle switch is engaged:
The option will then appear as in the snippet below:

Yes, sure - there's no need to exclude a buyer if you're going to process unpaid items manually 🙂

I want to make sure you're aware that the new unpaid item cancellation process is initially defaulted to a "manual" procedure; in other words, you have to cancel the transaction yourself after four full calendar days of non-payment. The option to cancel for non-payment appears when the transaction qualifies time-wise. You won't see the option appear until after the four-day grace period.
If you would like the unpaid item cancellation process to be automatic, you have to go into your Preferences (as linked and depicted in earlier posts in this thread) and change it to automatic yourself.
If you have not changed your Preferences to make this process automatic, your current transaction will not be cancelled by eBay.
Please make sure you read the eBay help page regarding the new process. There's a lot of misinformation floating around the discussion boards about how it works.

IMO, the page is not intuitive. If one is looking for where/how to exclude specific member ids, one would look at the initial page and not see a place to do that. It would not necessarily occur to every seller that the toggle switch has to be engaged in order to present the rest of the page, including the space to add excluded member ids.
I'm not sure if you're objecting to another poster expanding on your advice in order to provide complete and correct information by posting screenshots that might help someone else reading this thread?

Of course not.
I guess after 15 years of selling, I'm just used to what eBay expects you to understand. They have never written user friendly pages, and I suspect they never will. Other perspectives are always good, and most welcome.

I went and looked and right now the Preferences are for automatically canceling after 7 days. I think that is a reasonable time frame. Apparently the person who contacted me needed to wait for payday....to buy a very cheap item. I'm in no position to judge but it does seem odd. I could see that for items $50 and up. OK, maybe $25. Not $6.

You know, I would ordinarily agree with you on that, but times are a bit different right now. We don't know your buyer's circumstances--unemployed or someone else in the household unemployed, maybe underemployed, maybe someone just living paycheck to paycheck (and many of us have been there), unexpected expenses, and any one of dozens of other possible scenarios.
I'm thankful to be at a point in my life where purchasing a $6 item is not an issue for me, but I remember when it might have been.
If you're interested in increasing your good karma (and who isn't?), you might even consider throwing in a similar little "gift" item if this buyer does end up paying--something you can afford to include. It just might make that person's day. 🌞
