I started to call CS but then decided I'd get better info here!
In looking at my Overview in My Ebay I see they say I'm down 40% from the "same period" last year.
What exactly are they comparing? Year to date this year versus year to this date last year?
Or what I've sold so far in Dec this year compared to all of Dec last year?
Bottom line is that so far sales are slow for me this year and they were brisk last December.

Actually, it seems to me the answer is right there on the page. Under the block SALES, it shows “compared to last 31 days:”, then it says “compared to same period a year ago”.
That says to me that they are comparing the last 31 days of this year with THE SAME 31 days of last year without regard to when a month starts or ends. Each day the 31 days changes to add one new day and delete the oldest day.
It makes sense since sales for some items are seasonal so this year to last year is a valid comparison.

I was wondering if that was the case. I ended up calling CS and they said the stats were comparing this November with last November though.

If you sell in more than one category, those stats are less than helpful. They're based on the two categories where eBay says you've had the most sales, so they may not be reflective of your total sales. I rely on my own records and run numbers myself to get an accurate picture.

Mine says I'm up 140%. I don't think so....

Not sure what you sell - but like another has said - that stat can be categorized if you sell more of one thing than another. I sell a lot of clothes collectibles - but my biggest sales last year were in t-shirts - so that % is only looking at my sales in the t-shirt category and comparing it to the last 30 days and last year - I'm down 47%.
Now if you go into Paypal - you'll get a better idea of the difference of your sales when compared to last year - according to Paypal - I'm only down 40% from last year!
