im going away and i want to suspend my listing for that time, it seems that there is no way to suspend a listing temporarily unless you unlist and relist. i want to know if you change quantity to 0 will that in effect remove your listing from peoples searches?

Vacation settings are only available to Stores subscribers.

Non store sellers have 3 options:

1) End their listings before they leave and relist when they get back.

2) Edit their listings to have an extended Handling Time that reflects when they will be able to ship.

3) If your items are Fixed Price GTC, you can use the "Out of Stock option" and reduce your available qty to zero while you are gone.

#2 is not an optimal solution because lots of buyers will not notice the extended handling time and will be upset when the seller does not ship immediately.

If you are opted into zero quantity active listing feature then by changing quantities to zero will effectively remove your item from buyers search results.  It does not stop the countdown clock to renew your GTC listings and they will continue to renew at there specific time frames.

I would just end them and relist them when you are ready.  Or if you know how long you will be gone you could also change the handling time to meet your time away and buyers will still have a chance to buy knowing the shipment date will be extended based on your handling time.

For the last 6 or 7 years or so I have always just extended my handling time to cover the time that I will be away. All of my items will then remain available for sale to buyers while I am away, and then when I return I usually have a bountiful harvest of orders to ship out.

But if you do decide to go this route you will want to take care in choosing your handling time. Give yourself a decent buffer. i.e. If your trip will last 3 calendar days choose either 5 or 10 business day handling time. My flight was canceled and it was the last flight of the day on one of my most recent business trips and had I not factored in an extra 2 business day buffer beforehand I would have been in real trouble with regards to my late shipment service metrics.

I also contact every single buyer that makes a purchase from me during these travel/vacation periods to verify and to make sure that they are aware that I will not be able to ship their items until xxxx date. Most are aware, and for those that are not I always make the offer to cancel their transactions so that they can make another purchase elsewhere. This helps to protect me from unhappy buyers who are unaware of the extended handling times that my listings will have while I am away.
