seller has a question

Isn't it ridiculous that there is not (as there used to be),  a real person to contact about a question that is not covered in any help forums. This company makes billions of dollars and they don't provide general help.

Anyway, I have received an offer on an item I am selling. Nowhere does in the offer mention the purchaser is to pay for shipping.

Will they indeed cover shipping?

Shipping is not part of an offer normally. Some buyers may make reference like "including shipping" in the notes section because they want the offer to include shipping.

If a buyer accepts your offer they go through checkout like a normal sale and if shipping is applicable it will be charged.

By the way, the answer is in the Help files

Offers do not affect the shipping as stated on the item listing. If shipping was stated as "free," then it's free on the offer. If shipping was $5 on the listing, it's $5 plus the offered amount.

If the potential buyer mentioned a change in shipping cost in the "note" section of their offer, it would not be binding; however, it's probably a good idea to counteroffer and make that clear rather than to accept the offer with that stipulation.

I have seen this complaint numerous times here on the forums of late.  Be advised though, that under the old system you may have gotten a real human on the phone, but from an outsourced CS venue.  They were (are) notorious for giving bad information that may cause you more drama and harm than you originally had faced.

So, if they are gone, that might be a good thing.  Depends on the issue, of course.  Ask here, read here. would be my advice.  You may not get the answer you want, but you will be informed as how it really works.

@wildaruth

Your offer only applies to the item price. The buyer is responsible for the shipping costs you have lsited in your auction.

It states that in eBay's policy for making an offer under the Tip Block. Here is what it says:

Your offer only applies to the item price. Shipping costs and all the other terms specified in the seller’s listing remain the same.

Here is the link to eBay's making an offer policy:

I forgot to include, if you ever want to try and contact eBay you can try:

You can send an email message to eBay. Not sure how often email is working. It is hit and miss due to COVID-19. I just used it on Aug 11, 2020 and got a reply and solution to a problem I found here on eBay. I was shocked.

Here is the link:

https://www.ebay.com/help/account/contacting-ebay-customer-service/contacting-ebay-customer-service?...

The email option is at the bottom of the link.

Or you can reach out to customer service using social media:

eBay on Facebook

eBay on Twitter

Social media also worked for me on another issue a few months back. Got an answer and resolution to my issue fairly quickly.  It wouldn't hurt to leave a contact number.   The CSR ended up calling me.

Hope this helps!

Be aware that if they are buying from their phone - which you will not know, there is a glitch that makes shipping cost disappear - sometimes!

I have contacted eBay help via phone, left a message, and received a callback within an hour or 2 from a human who helped me.
