Curious how other sellers deal with consistent low offers. Typically when I list an item I research what similar items have recently sold for and price my item at a price at and very often lower than that similar sold price. I more often than not receive offers of half or less than half of my buy it now price.

Set to auto decline and auto accept. You can see how many offers were made and turned down. Sometimes you get a snit who says ohhh so 2.00 is to much for you to go down huh. I said. No I already. Went down 5. Not going 7
good luck. See what happens

I understand your reasoning and the psychology behind it. This may work with some buyers.
Other buyers may be frustrated with you not responding and then buy the item from another seller when the Best Offer expires. They may not buy from you in the future also.
Rejecting the offer may have your original intended response, but letting the Best Offer linger will probably just upset people.
Not trying to tell you what to do. Just offering my opinion. You can see how I respond to Best Offers above.

I'm afraid there is a misunderstanding here.
I don't sell, and I never said what I would do. I just said that I read about how a particular seller handled a best offer. I didn't say I did that.

It really depends on what kind of mood I am in. One time I had an offer of $1.00 on a $35.00 item, I asked them if they fell and bumped thier head and then blocked them.
Sometimes I respond "Thank you for your offer, I consider all Reasonable offers"
Sometimes I do the math for them to show how crazy their offer is and that I would lose money and then ask them what THEY would do.
Sometimes I just decline.
Rarely do I counteroffer as most of the time I have found the low ballers are just fishing.
I just sold a nice set of dishes by explaining my lowest price acceptable by doing the math for the buyer. SHe understood and we came to a meeting of the minds. Shipped it Yesterday.

@castlemagicmemories wrote:Seriously you have to wonder what is going through someone's head (anything?) when they make an offer like that. Hello??? Anybody home??? Are they SO special you are going to PAY THEM to take your item?? Do they think the seller is stupid or just that desperate??
I've heard that some sellers have actually taken the bait on $1 lowball offers. Insanity. My guess is that they clicked on Accept by mistake.

@klassic*kids Just wanted to say thanks again for your good ideas because I acted on that advice today and set up markdown sales on about 150 items. Let's hope that shakes the dust off!

I know myself and always set the auto-decline because I might make an off-hand comment if it's a grumpy old man day. For those that offer over 50% of asking I will usually counter-offer within a few hours. If the item has several watchers, I'll wait a bit longer and have sold items to the best offer buyer at full price because they got nervious that it would sell. I still check the current competitors pricing and base my response on that, either a flat decline, no message or a counter-offer with a message.

@klassic*kids Thanks! I'm trying to make some changes, and I'm hoping for the best.

Depends on my mood I don't buy anything for resale unless I'm stealing it and some days if my mood is right the buyers can steal it from me. Its all crapola and won't buy you another breath of air on earth at the big checkout lane anyhow....

That annoyance that a buyer feels when their best offer sits around with no answer, or is rejected, may goad said buyer into forking over the full price asked. Their frustration, or their impatience, moves them to buy. Also they may not want to lose the item to another buyer who has no problem hitting the BIN and who wants to avoid the back and forth or waiting for acceptance.
Just some thoughts.

Not sure which post of mine you replied to when you said that I might lose sales.
My first response to you was on the post where I mentioned the seller that would get a best offer, counter offer, buyer offers less, so seller raises counter offer. I said, I don't sell and only mentioned what one seller did.
Then I found this post. This one is just supposition as to what may be going on in the buyer's mind. Again, not saying what I did or would do if I sold.
Just some thoughts for clarification. Maybe you meant to respond to another poster.

Letting the Best Offer linger will probably just upsets the buyer. He might end up buying the item from another seller when the Best Offer expires.

You're fine, no worries. Somehow you seemed to think I sold and that was how I handled Best Offers; but I just posted on what the buyer might think, and then about how one seller handled a Best Offer, according to what I read. So I just wanted to clarify.
