If a buyer buys something as a BIN -- and you are temporarily out of stock but can restock and ship the item within a few days -- is this a defect? What if it takes you a week to restock and ship the item out?
Or does it depend on whether the buyer complains to ebay?
We are not used to having this problem so we don't know.
I am told being out of stock of an item you have listed is a defect. And I can see how "out of stock" can be abused by some sellers. Drop shippers. But it can happen once in a great while, with a popular item you sell a lot of and there is an occasional (rare) error in inventory keeping. .

Depends on your handling time.

If you don't ship within your stated handling time, then your score for "On time shipping" will be damaged, regardless of how amenable the buyer is about waiting. But the only way you'd get n actual defect point is if you cancel the transaction and choose "Out of stock" as the reason.

I for one - dislike when the item I buy is out of stock - especially two weeks later when I ask for a reund of the item and the seller ignores the request, and I have to go to Paypal to get a case started - only then they upload a label and it does not ship for another 1.5 - BECAUSE the seller does not want to lose a sale - that right there is a NEGATIVE to other customers - if you are OUT of stock - PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE communicate with your buyer and ask them if it would be okay to ship out in a few days and let them answer - to wait over three weeks for a product when I could have bought it from someone else and had it ship within a week will upset other buyers like myself. I don't think it's Ebay that you have to worry about.

It would not count if you can get the item in stock and shipped within the handling time that you selected.
Otherwise, it is an OOS. Or a late shipment ding.

I think there is an out of stock setting you can put on a listing. Not shure how it works.
