I don't believe someone "ordered by mistake" - get an order, less then 5 min later get cancel request. Ok fine, but ebay should deduction the $0.30 transaction fee from the buyer, not the seller, call it a falsely ordering fee. Top it off, they take from your pending funds not the processing, so thanks, you just screwed my payout tomorrow and -maybe- your funds will clear and be paid back to me by the weekend.
I don't care really if someone wants to cancel, but the way ebay set this up just screws the seller.

At least we know that it is not corporate paying people in the third world to use a VPN to do this to encourage low volume sellers to leave so there will be less competition for Wal-Mart and China. They would never do that because they are immensely ethical and take the long view for business.

I don't think the .30 transaction fee is fair when the Buyer cancels, but e-Bay is never going to work to penalize the Buyer.
We have one who did a Best Offer and then did not pay, emailing say they did not remember putting in the offer.

it's a small potato, and doesn't happen much for me, but I know there are sellers who get slammed with this and that small potato potentially becomes a giant potato , it can add up is what i mean.
The point is, some may order by mistake, but I think it's people just ordering then seeing something else they like better or cheaper, and sending cancel request instead of taking their time and actually looking and deciding what listing they want to purchase. Ebay can fix this by making everyone go to a shopping cart and ridding the "easy" check out of "Buy It Now" (it's still buy it now if you go to a cart) but they won't, it's been brought up many times in the past.

@kensgiftshop that change came after I was in Managed Payments, but yeah, your correct i believe that is how they have it now there.

You know what a big problem is?
When someone buys something, at the bottom of the confirm order page it shows 'similar items' and sometimes there are other sellers selling the same item for cheaper.
Seems kinda rude to me. 😐

Maybe next time you should be "out of the office" and don't see the cancel request until after your payout is sent in the morning.

Chat with eBay for a courtesy credit.

We couldn't do anything cause Ebay will never do that penalty.

It's best not to dwell on things.
Usually Karma evens thing out one way or another.

it's $0.30 - not end of the world. But they should reverse the processing funds, not take from pending.
